Back to the original question asked...
The McLaren F1 was and still is right up there as a supercar by anyones definition.
The 570 figures from 0-60, 0-100, 0-124 are very, very close to the F1, it has the show off doors ( which actually are very practical ) looks like a spaceship and it does over 200mph.
What other box does it have to tick?
Two key differences:The McLaren F1 was and still is right up there as a supercar by anyones definition.

The analogue F1 does not suffer depreciation.
The average granny cannot drive an F1

So a 720 isn’t a Supercar either by your definition then as they are dropping like stones. A contender for the fastest road car available. Ok. The analogue F1 does not suffer depreciation.

Just as a burger and prime rib-eye steak are both food.
Went looking at cars with my eldest (6yr old) we’ve looked at Mclarens, Ferrari’s and Audi R8 and he sees them all as supercars
I suppose it depends on your attitude and ego though
On Instagram last week someone posted a pic of an R8 and I made the comment that he should post it on here to debate whether it was a supercar or not and someone else piped up and said if the R8 isn’t a supercar then neither is a 458 and apparently that’s debated quite a lot on another forum

I dont get alot of the things about 'supercars'.
For example:
I dont know why anyone would buy an Aventador over a Performante, when the latter is obviously a much better car.
Is it because the Aventador is more outrageous?
McLarens, R8s aren't designed to be outrageous, therefore they aren't supercars?

A lot depends on the definition of 'better'. Extrapolating from the current electronic driver aids, in the same way as you press a button and the gbox goes up or down a cog, one day you might be able to press a button and the car will do a lap of the Nordschleife, all by itself, in under 6 mins. Better? For some, yes.....For example:

If you consider the 911turbo/turbo s a supercar then the Mac is. If it is not then neither is the Mac. I personally would rather have the Porsche
According to TG, they are both Supercars > https://www.topgear.com/car-news/british/mclaren-5...MAC 720S said:

I personally don't consider either a supercar (and I've owned a 911 turbo) but my opinion counts for Jack at the end of the day. Would still take the Porsche though. Never you mind said:

Maybe why McLaren categorise the 570s as a sports series, rather than super series. The 911 and 570 are both super cars, but supercars, hmmm.... Is this thread still running?
A supercar has to meet ALL of a bunch of criteria. One of those criteria is exclusivity. Another is whether it would be a teenager's bedroom poster pic (as Testarossa and Countach were for me).
A number of the claimed supercars above miss these 2 tests.
Any McLaren passes ALL the tests easily. (Including the new GT.)
