Got a really annoying rattle that has developed on my 2019 570S. Has around 1000 miles on it now. Only happens at idle and only occasionally. When it does happen it’s so loud and annoying. Can’t tell where it’s coming from - front of car, rear of car, underneath. Tried pressing various pieces of trim but can’t isolate it. Will take it to the dealer but It’s bound to not happen when it’s there.

Made a video of it - anyone experience anything similar to this?

To me, it’s a sort of plastic panel very loose vibrating excited from engine frequency.

No idea what where, but try to locate with your hears...technician should do the same and hopefully find it.

Is it coming from the fan? Does the noise alter when you change the fan speed?

No - it only happens when stationary / at idle, maybe when the rpms are at a precise point that causes something plastic somewhere to vibrate and rattle. Literally pressed on every surface I can find from the dashboard / all air vents / instrument cluster, underside of dash, behind seats etc.

The infuriating thing is I can't reproduce it at will - it only happens occasionally which is going to make it hard to show when I bring it in to the service center.

My wife was in the car on one occasion when it happened and she too couldn't tell where it was coming from (front / back / underneath) as sound bounces all round the cabin.

Maybe try an alternative approach. Rather than trying to figure out where it is by listening to it keep something like a large towel in the car - fold it up so it's fairly thick and see if you can mute the noise by covering bits of the interior. Might give you a clue of rough location.

Good suggestion.

It appears to be so loose it cannot be something on A surfaces (usually heavy parts attached to metal or plastic) so it wont disappear if you press what you can see / touch.

My thoughts...

Mine had a similar annoying buzzing rattle. I was sure it was coming from the passenger side door trim, any passenger was sure it was from the drivers side. Pressing, pushing touching every trim panel did nothing.

Turned out to be the central interior light cover, just pressing it in slightly and the noise disappeared.

You have no idea just how joyous it was to finally find the culprit lol.

as weird as it sounds, check the interior light - I had a loose screw rolling around inside the light lens and my other half swore blind the noise was from my side of the car, and I was the same but from her side - it ended up being between us above our heads

Got it booked in for Sept 9th - will update the thread if they find the source.

Was rattling away today, checked the interior lights, its not them. Interestingly as I was shifting around in the seat trying to isolate which direction it was coming from it seemed to stop and start - although that could be coincidence. All I know is that it is driving me nuts!

Wanted to close this out - my dealer did a great job and tracked it down to a coolant hose that was vibrating against the frame of the car. Now just got to wait for a new windscreen to arrive to replace the one that cracked.... apparently there is a big backlog.
