Looks like he got it from Rardley in June 2018. I'm totally making a stab in the dark here but he may have paid somewhere close to £120k maybe more?

I saw another listed at Rardley a year earlier for more, except that was a garage queen. Other than that, licking my finger and sticking it out the window tbh

The CC ad says he bought it in early 2020. That’s entirely correct and it was via Rardley. Rardley had the car SOR for some time. It’s a thin market for manual 612s and it was originally listed a little after the peak in prices after which things softened.

It’s in good nick and has been looked after; it was maintained by Meridian Modena every year for the last 7 or 8 years. There’s a FFSH and certainly had all the invoices with the car.

I can’t speak beyond Jan-20 and the current owner can choose to comment or not, but thought I’d clarify some of the history that was being queried. I was the owner for those last 7 or 8 years.

Out of interest how much did you sell it for?

Given the car is for sale now I don’t think it’s the right thing to discuss price. That’s a matter for the current owner. Given the car was for sale under my ownership for some time you can assume that the market is thin and that it didn’t go for the original asking price.

The point I was keen to clarify was around the slight question over provenance and maintenance. All the paperwork was with the car when I sold it including all the invoices from Meridian for the last c8 years with expected bills for belts, usual suspension parts, brakes etc. No major issues and just the usual Ferrari consumables.

As has already been mentioned, very good of you to vouch for the car.
I did mention something about condition, but certainly not provenance or service history. It was more about the condition it's been brought to market in, which doesn't lend itself to being one of those 'other' manual 612s that's gone for silly money in the past. Things like the worn bolsters, flaking engine paint etc.

Due to the rarity of a manual 612 they are difficult to price for sure, throw in a pandemic and government misteps and that makes it even more foggy. The point I feel I'm trying no make here is that it's the market that dictates the value, and the market has done that twice now. I would have cashed in personally.

If that gets listed again on CC in the near future, then the sale is going to be seen as a distressed one and that can only be a bad thing for the seller.

Quite understand and no criticism intended. I should have worded it better. I thought I would shed a little light in case at some point someone read this thread and inferred a problem.

Yes, what was it £80k?

Sublime little car, but that did surprise me somewhat!

That’s got to complete chandelier bidding by the collecting cars guys. If they are going to shill bid stuff up, at least don’t make it so obvious laugh

That would be to obtain a pecuniary advantage by deception and an offence under the Theft Act?

Collecting Cars soon to be inundated with Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV owners all expecting to achieve £80,000 for their cars!
Will be a tough conversation when reserves are set at £40,000 which is about right for a well sorted matching numbers car.

Was there something unusual / extra special about that one to warrant the price achieved?

Not that I know of... just a very well restored 2000 GTV.

Clearly two people thought it was worth that though for there to be a bidding competition. Massive money.

I think the Alfa achieved its final bid with a few days left to run on the auction.
