Hi guys. I’ve just collected my R8. Absolutely fantastic car.
I love the R tronic gearbox. It adds drama and I’m learning how to use it correctly.
I’m loving the whole thing of a real Super car experience even if some people don’t class it as such.
The car gets so much positive attention.

I love the rtronic too. You very quickly learn to unconsciously lift a little on low speed changes from first to second. Smooths it right out.
P.s. most motoring mags including Evo call it what it is, a supercar. Seemingly those that don't agree have more expensive exotica, and I guess don't like the fact affordable ones are out there. Bit like people calling the boxster the poor man's Porsche when it turned out to be a superb car.
In my local I heard someone referring to my R8 V10 as a "wannabe supercar". He drives a vauxhall estate. It's just so eye roll.

EVO actually list the V10 as a Supercar and the V8 as a Sportscar. That probably settles it in most people's eyes. Great cars - enjoy yours.
I've never really understood this debate - I'm happy to take someone out in my 610+ bhp RWS R8 and see if they think it's super! I'm fortunate enough to also have a 911 GTS and that's a bit of a yawn in comparison.....lovely thing though

I had a 911 C4S and I never felt it was anything other than a top end sports car. Too dull and not fast enough, nor eye-popping enough (although I did love that car to look at - perhaps the fact they are so common deminishes that). Great bit of machinery no doubt. An "instrument", and a precise one at that.With the R8 V10 there are two new elements. It's truly insanely fast and it's also stunning. People stop and take photos, and also, I laugh out loud every time I go out and push her a little (remapped top 585). I 100% enjoy the whole "out there" supercar experience. My other half won't drive the R8 due to the attention.
I heard a V8 R8 pull into a petrol station the other day and it sounded epic. Spoke to the owner and it had a Miltec exhaust. If I had one I'd have the same spec!
I must admit that my first day with the R8 was not ideal, a 7 hour drive including 3 hours on the M25 in jams. The car really is not built for this.
But the next day was great.
I’ve had a 996 C4, C6 corvette & 230 SLK Kompressor.
The R8 is on a completely different level of drama. The engine when revved hard is completely different to anything else I’ve ever heard.
It’s closer to a super bike.
The stares and attention are a bit un nerving.
It’s way faster than you will ever need on public roads.
Very happy with the car. Not so happy I’m working away and can’t drive it.
But the next day was great.

So I bought this on Saturday, 2009, 57,000 miles 2009 R-Tronic, lots of carbon.
Part exe'd my M4 and its a very different beast. The R8 is probably not so fast as the M4 but its an event to drive.
Stopped at a junction 2 young lads said "Rev it mister, please rev it!"
I have the extended leather, B&O, alcantara roof and electric seats so it has a nice quality feel.
It now appears that this car was a prize in an online draw a few months ago, obviously won and then sold on.
So yes the R-Tronic is an acquired taste but its not so bad, as someone has said its better than a Porsche Tiptronic !
Will i keep it long, well that's the intention.
So a couple of weeks in impressions:
I have taken the black wrap off the roof and it looks so much better.
I have found the colour to be Pelikan blue, seems a pretty rare colour on an R8?
I have given it an all around clean and a carbon ceramic wax, (EZ Car Care).
I have taken off each wheel and thoroughly cleaned the inside of the rims, they appear to have been recently painted and are all pretty much spotless. Very very slight oil misting on Magrides ...
I now have an R88 ... number plate which looks good as well.
So I actually quite like the R-Tronic you can burble through town without having to worry about traffic but then go into sports manual for a bit of spirited driving, so from me its a yes.

I am still not sure about the seats, they are comfortable but I would love wingbacks.

Better known as Kingfisher blue in the UK; lovely colour from ~20 years ago that certainly suits the car well.
A large amount of the bad press R-Tronic boxes got is unfair (you could say the same of a lot of automated manuals). A lot of this got repeated by people with no experience or a limited 20 minute test drive. Get some miles on one and drive it as intended and they work well.

Mines a 2009 manual in Ibis white with Carbon blades and carbon interior with 60,000 miles.
oh and a Milltek exhaust... sounds bloody loud!

Oh the madness of insurers :-) . If they were with different insurers I'd understand. Both cars have my mrs on them as an additional driver.
Only difference is R8 is garaged overnight. Yeti parked in private space outside house, away from main road, low risk area.
