Audi R8 V10 Plus or McLaren 570S - Opinions

It's not the contemplation of buying something else that is a problem, and that is a misrepresentation to make out that it is. The issue is childish and facile reasons given that no serious person would actually make part of their consideration set. Such 'wouldn't you rather say you own / put keys to an X down on the bar than an Audi' or 'you won't regret not buying an Audi' or 'no-one has a poster of an Audi on their wall when they're a kid'. These comments are as facile and stupid as Clarkson's rubbish about the Boxster being a 'poor man's Porsche' and should be called out as such.
I would rather own a Lamborghini or McLaren than an Audi. I found the (non plus) R8 V10 boring. It’s just an opinion.
I like when kids go “wow what’s that” and I say it’s a Lamborghini. Not sure “audi” would be as impressive to them or me.
I like some people knowing what I drive and yes I like showing off in certain places with certain cars. I’m probably a terrible person for that, oh well.

Listen, you're obviously a big brave boy. People who post aggressively on Internet forums always are, and I'm scared. Really scared. So just let the thread get back on track.AndyC_123 said:

Can’t say you could even tell which is which by driving them if you took the label off the steering wheel. More than just similar mechanically. Does the excitement lacking in the R8 that you get in a real supercar come from attracting attention from small children?
Can’t you just give them a Paw Patrol toy? Buy a job lot off eBay you’d be quids in.
Why do people constantly not understand the premise of expressing a personally held opinion on a thread when asked for them.
Look at the title of this thread....
Now, for some, it is their opinion that "Car A" does not display "subjective quality x" as much as "Car B"....these contributors will list other areas they're not feeling about Car A....some will turn the tables and have more negative subjective opinions about "Car B"
Some will post positive comments about either.
Getting personal is unnecessary, we're commenting on cars....not your family... pointing out that there are more people writing things you personally don't like is just tough. Deal with it.
(If it helps I've loved and even preferred the 986/987/981 over any other Porsche since it's concept unveiling..... and anyone who takes on Clarkson's opinions just because he's Jeremy Clarkson requires help...that better?
It's a lot of money, I personally couldn't buy a fun/poster car with my head... it'd be a heart purchase all day long, which I'd justify in my head by any means necessary.
When it came to the "family" car or workhorse.... head rules, but it'd be better if I could love it a little bit.
So for (mentioned in 2 car garage thread) I have an S2000 for fun because it ticks all my emotional subjective needs without compromise, and a 159 diesel sportwagon for the rest. It does it's duty, but I can still enjoy looking at it and sitting in it.
(Feel free to point out my cars are not in the same ball park as the OPs, or that that either/both cars are PoS in your opinion... I really don't care )
OP, do these opinions sway you at all?

Thanks for the view guys, and I agree there has been some really valuable input. This is a heart decision but of course one has to use the head to an extent otherwise if I just followed my heart blindly I would have no place to live but a really nice Bugatti Veyron to drive
I am not one for badge snobbery but get that whether we like it or not there is a car marque hierarchy and ultimately that also is factored in to what makes its way to the heart rather than the head which is where the McLaren no doubt has the edge. I have had all the marques in my time and do agree that there is something special about an exotic only brand that does give you a sense of excitement without even starting the engine. I need to get out and drive a Gen 2 Audi R8, I am coming to a conclusion that it is currently second choice based on what I have read here but experiencing it for myself will either confirm or quash my feeling on this.

Do you live with in reasonable distance of a McLaren dealer? Reason I ask is that dealing with the niggles that seem to be expected would be much easier if a dealer is near to you. I would be keen on a McLaren given the current pricing, but it's impossible for me to consider as I have no practical way of getting to a McLaren servicing centre. Yes I have a dealer around 40 miles away from me so not too bad. I am hoping a car in my budget will have been on the road for a few years and have done a fair few miles so I would hope the niggles and gremlins would have been ironed out beforeBlackR8 said:

Agree, would hope so, but 40 miles isn't too far in case of further issues. That distance wouldn't put me off. The nearest McLaren dealer to me is 1200km away. At least its in Barcelona so there would be opportunities to mix in dealer visits with a nice city break but if the car wasn't capable of being driven there it could get expensive quickly.
With a Lambo dealership only up the motorway in Lisbon and various independents, its an easy choice for me to stick with a Gallardo. Its a shame really as I'd have quite fancied trying one of the lower end McLarens but having to do a 2400km round trip to pay main dealer prices... no thanks.

Seems like a lot of extra money to spend
That's just a matter of perspective. Try justifying your V8 R8 to someone with an MX5 that cost £1500 who thinks it can't be bettered.jakesmith said:

Can say I could tell the difference.Back on topic... I see there is a nice 570 that's come up at Amari.
