I think the situation is very odd at the moment.

There is definitely restricted supply - at least for some cars. There have been threads on here - and other places - that suggest quite a few people are looking for 650s. If I wanted shot of mine, I get the impression I could sell it quite easily - certainly far easier than I thought it would be when I bought it.

On the other hand - I don't think that is reflected in the prices. I've seen a few 650s for sale - and sold - recently which are cheaper than I thought they'd be.

To me, it seems like a very odd situation of restricted supply - but prices still dropping.

I think people are starting to think the UK is better positioned than Europe to return to something like normality and will benefit economically. Not sure that’s what will happen but I think that’s a sentiment that exists. It’s clearly been brutal for Tourism and Hospitality sectors but they’re about to have a storming six months.

Think you are right re tourism, but with capacity restrictions. A lot of those with disposable income won’t be eating out or travelling in to cities half as much, a lot of retailers teetering etc.

UK tourism will bounce but Europe will stay dead as they are lagging behind us with vaccinations. It doesn’t matter how well we are vaccinated if others won’t let us in? Only exceptions I can see are countries that are heavily dependent on UK tourists eg Spain, Cyprus and Greece.

Thanks Reece.

Surprised to hear AT is more popular than PH for Supercars listings.

I always thought PH was more for the more niche markets.

Premature but it does make you think.

Kia (yes Kia) have just released an SUV E6 GT - at roughly 58k that will do 0-60 in 3.5secs!

I do think in 5 years time us supercar drivers are going to look quite foolish in our 150k plus penis extenders when every family saloon/hatchback/SUV can match us or mostly beat us off the line. I understand that a proper supercar will beat them on a track but the reality is most owners never track their cars.

It’s going to be a very interesting psychological test of human beings. When I bought my first Lambo it was genuinely faster than almost everything on the road. It had a reason to exist. Now I’m not so sure.

I hate myself. But that Kia SUV looks better than the URUS and is at least 1/3 of the price, and outperforms it!

My son has absolutely no interest in supercars. He only wants an EV, but one that will outperform a Ferrari/Lambo.

Are we all going to be looking like the dicks we have been accused of? Maybe they will be right.
Probably saying out loud what many others are thinking!

I’m struggling, for the first time, to spend on what would be my next fast car; budget would be around £80/90k. Just feels no longer safe/relevant in light of the economy, the rise of faster EVs and the social acceptance of large and noisy fossil fuelled cars. Seem to have reached my own personal tipping point. Probably just me!

I think many feel the same as you, including myself.

I’ve started opting for useable classic cars instead - i.e - a focus on a more engaging driving experience instead of something that hits 60mph under 3 seconds... such as as a classic 911 or a Testarossa.

It’s a little bit of swings and roundabouts, some appear on PH, some on AT, most on both. However generally speaking I see more listings on AT.

Its a really curious time at the moment. My view is the market is clearly active and things like 812s dropped a lot off list and its still a current model so people are keen to buy in thinking they have missed the big depreciation curve. They might well have...

However I do think we are in for a roller-coaster post summer and I can't see any way we avoid a correction of prices across the board. things like gt4s and gt3s which in my view look expensive are going to take a bit of a correction whereas the ferrari 812 has already done so as has the 488. I'm slightly confused as to why the 458 hasn't dropped a bit more. They are not exactly rare and 488s are compelling and I've driven both cars several times. Yes it has the turbo argument but 4 years newer for a donkey reliability is something I'm still thinking about.

My conclusion is, I'm willing to miss this summer in having a change of the current toy and wait to see what autumn does. Admitted that probably means I take more depreciation on my car although at lower levels.

I've got a 488 for sale on SOR which I bought 6 months ago. Looking at a 12k depreciation. Its painful for sure. In my view its a much better car than the 458 even taking into account the turbo dislike. I have a deposit on a Huracan Performante .. hope that works out better for me with regard to depreciation

Painful?
Isn’t that a pretty good bid/offer spread over 6 months?

I don't consider 2k a month depreciation on a 4.5 year old car is ok.

Surely there has to be an initial hit for the dealer profit. I’m sure there are others who are closer to the numbers but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was £8-10k, which you would lose the minute you drive off.

Can’t see the problem tbh, a dealer would be looking to make around £20k margin on a 488..

So IF you only lose £12k on the sale, then I reckon you’re metaphorically in profit imo..

The Performante will be a totally different drive to the 488, hope that you enjoy it!

Exactly - that £12k loss is actually the dealers mark up. Surely you didn’t expect to be getting your money back if you bought it from a dealer?

Out of interest, why are you selling it after only 6 months? Was it too accomplished to be safe fun?

Friend bought a Wraith last June after first lockdown, just got out of it with £20k loss.
