Anyone know anything I can do to my Maser's steering to make it less direct as it is amazingly light at moderate to high speeds? This makes the car difficult to place in corners with two or three attempts at a line required.

Apparently there is no official upgrade. Does anyone else think that the steering is too light and if so how do I fix it?

...best way to fix your Mazza is to chop it in for a 911!!

The 3200GT (and to a slightly lesser extent the 4200GT) have dodgy steering and handling. Big sacrifices to make in my book for NOT wanting to buy a Porsche.

Of course, if you need the 4 seats, then that's another matter.

Like the four seats and the boot in the 911 is too small for kids buggies and stuff. The 03MY steering and suspension on the 4200 is much better than the 3200. However, I would like to fix the 3200 and save the £ if I can.

Like engines in the front also......

Can't say I've ever had a problem with the steering. I suppose it depends on what you're used to or how long you've had the car.

Personally, I'd like to reduce body roll and improve the brakes but only really for the track. I didn't notice any Porsches keeping up with me through the fast country roads around the 'ring!

You might want to speak to Caracalla as they do the Leo Nardo modifcations and might suggest something.

...oh...think that was the one that had lapped you earlier and was probably on a cool-down lap!
(all in jest...sort of!)

I didn't say ON the 'ring. Most of the cars were pretty well modified including the Porsches and driven by people with a lot more experience than me. But as a road car I can honestly say not much keeps up with it. A non-turbo 996 handles better but isn't as quick - unless it's a GT3. If I went from this to a Porsche it'd have to be a turbo.

Can't say I recall the Masers' steering as being that light Andrew. Does it get better if you engage 'Sport'- IIRC this stiffens up the steering? If you're using a light touch on the wheel, and I assume you are, it sounds similar to a problem I had with my 911, which felt like it was developing lift at high speed. In my case, it was due to the geometry being out, and the problem went away when it was reset. Another potential cause is a bent/adrift undertray or something else interfering with underbody aerodynamics.

My car is due a service in October so I will have the geometry checked then. I don't think sport affects the steering. In fact I struggle to feel much reduction in body roll. Also not sure how much of the ASR you lose in Sport.

Rang Caracalla yesterday and today and left my # but they hav'nt bothered to ring me back.

My other cars are German so I'm not used to the directness of Italian steering. Mind you I remember the steering on the old shape SL being pretty light (and frightening!).

I struggled to notice much difference with the Sport mode too but the main difference is that it allows more wheel spin. With my recent change I leave it on all the time to avoid the ASR coming on all the time.

Be patient with Caracalla - I don't think they react very quickly.
