The first Maserati I drove was about 4 years ago. It was a French Blue Ghibli Cup, 330bhp belching from its frenzied 2000cc powerplant. It was (and still is) on of the best automotive moments in my life, the sheer grunt of the thing and it's 'nothing like anyone else' styling really had me hooked. Luckily though a nice man called Harry (editor of evo) took the trouble to reply to a mail directed to him and advised me against the purchase after checking out the specifics.

Still it was on that day, at that dealer that I first got a good glimpse of a 3200, and I was mighty impressed....

Fast forward to this year, and I've spent a lot of time researching the 3200 (many thanks to all on this list who have helped me on my search, particularly craig/Alex/Andrew).

Maseratis always used to be beautiful cars, the shape of the 3200 (and 4200) is to my eyes very dynamic and reminissent of previous Maseratis from the 70's, taking the marque back to a golden age of big engined fast front engined GT's with prodigious power, and understated opulence for the driver and passengers alike.

So finally, after

years of staring
boring (ex)girlfriend to tears
test driving
looking at a lot more,
millions of insurance quotes
thousands of internet and magazine reviews
hanging round dealerships like a bad smell

my 3200GT awaits me picking it up at the weekend...

Car is Rosso Mondiale (Maserati racing red)

Comme delicieux!

Utterly gorgeous. Congratulations.

So that's two 3200GTs, right, including Craig's new steed?

Can you be arrested for molesting exotic automation?

hehe cheers chaps! I'm literally counting the hours....

Greg - more than welcome for a passenger ride (though check with Incorrigable -
he has previous experience passengering with me at PH events - see Mungos comments!!)

Flasher - I'd say do it, but the T350 is still so achingly lovely it will be a hard decision...

Derestrictor - you can, but I won't tell anyone.

Mungo - F**k off! You know I only do that to hire cars! Come blag a ride at VMaxIII, should be safe enough in a straight line at least...

VMaxIII - see info in Events section / small pointers / explanations in the F/M/L and porsche forums... (Basically Bruntingthorpe airfield 2 mile straight and a gatso or two and some rather tasy automobile creations from Germany/Italy and beyond)

craigw is co-ordinating activities - check out the thread and put your name down so that craig has a chance to sort numbers properly

Well done - the red is great and the car must be one of the last 3200's registered. If you give me the last five digits of the chassis number I can give you an idea of when it was made. This is the one which Maranello had in the Sunday Times yesterday for £42,950?

As you may have noticed on another thread I actually sold my 3200 last week! Info. wise for when you want to sell it, the Maserati network did'nt want to know about mine unless I was buying another Maser (or I guess a Ferrari?!) with one only prepared to bid a (low) figure - the rest did'nt even have the politeness to ring me back. My new car dealer did better passing it on to a trader who underwrote it. From this I guess that the older 3200's are dropping out of the network (mine was a V plate manual with 24k miles).

I am sure that I will be back in a Maser next year or the year after, probably an 03 or 04 MY 4200 coupe for £40-45k.

Verrry nice Rich. This week's going to drag a bit isn't it? Make sure you take someone along to take pics- it's an irreproducible moment when you collect a new car or have it delivered. Oh, and post a couple on here so the rest of us can enjoy it too. Lovely looking car. Congratulations.

Not over the T350 I hope?

I also wonder if there any bodyshops that would consider putting the boomerang lights in the 420 verion?
