I presumed most car enthusiasts these days knew sponges were a no- no for their paintwork, let alone scouring pads! :S I remember back when i was at school, a group of kids were doing a charity staff car wash, and one lucky teacher had their car completely scoured by a child! im guessing the child's parents had to fork out for the respray! Maybe their should be a sticky thread at the top of the F,M,L&B page, or maybe every marque's page with the guides from polished bliss's website to prevent such an accident occuring in the future? Action must be taken!

Why is there not an area on PH to list Detailers?

What is wrong with using a sponge?

The problem with sponges is that they cause fine scratches and swirl marks on car body work, this is because the surface of a sponge does not allow grit to be lifted away from the surface of your car, it just drags dirt and grit along the surface, creating swirl marks frown Zymol do produce sponges that are safer, but most people who know that sponges are generally a bad idea use lambs wool mitts or plush micro fibre cloths and towels. This is because they have a deep pile which allows grit to be safely lifted from the paintwork, deep into the mitt or towel, leaving your paintwork cleaner and unharmed!

It makes me cringe to see people using sponges on their cars, any car, but this is no more true than when i was at 'Meridien Modena' in Lyndhurst afew months ago and a member of staff was cleaning the grey 430 scud they had for sale with a sponge frown I really wanted to stop him, but didnt want to be 'that guy' and tell the man how to do his job.

Having detailed numerous cars before myself and met, even befriended many other 'professional detailers' and seen their work first hand, I have only this to say -

teacher

Detailer required? = CALL KELLY AT KDS KELTEC

That is my honest, unbiased opinon. He's just streets ahead of anyone else, and in this forum I think that matters above all.

Years ago I used the same type scouring pad to get the flies off the front of my motor. It did the job very well, one wipe & its done, I highly recommend it..... If all you want to do is remove flies! eek

Good god! You took a scouring pad to a LAMBORGHINI!

On a serious note get a good detailer to have a look, T-cut is very abrasive and is an absolute last resort.
