Hi all, I am going to arrange a day out fly fishing at one of the premiere gin clear stalking waters in the country, The wonderful Avington fishery in Hampshire. It is a fantastic place to stalk large fish well into double figures, there is also the Itchen carrier to fish when you fancy a change or you have your limit.
I have not booked the fishery yet as I need to guage the interest first.
Here is a link if you are not familiar with the venue.
http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&...

I am thinking about mid September or the beginning of October
I will try to get the use of the lodge for drinks and will see if we can have a BBQ aswell.
I can personally vouch for the quality of the fishery and the staff.
Whether you are a novice or an experienced fly angler it will be an enjoyable day.
Feel free to PM me with questions or for more info, and if a list could be started with numbers that would be great
There will be the obligatory meet somewhere and have run to the venue so we can all arrive together and in style. The maximun number will be 20 so there is 18 more spaces as Shelly fishes aswell
Many Thanks
Jamie

I'd have thought a convoy of TVR's would have sent all the fish upstream! Anyway, never done it and to be honest it's never appealed BUT I am up for giving it a go. Wouldn't it be something if I caught a bigger one than Jamie!

Hmm, might be up for that. Expensive tickets and relatively difficult fishing, though?

Hi Steve, I thought you would be interested, Are you at the breakfast club or the Sunday service, I am at Goodwood and on the circuit.
I admit it is expensive but the fishing is mainly stalking and you can generally have your limit quite quick if you want the smaller fish. Its usually easier in the morning then gets a bit harder as the day goes on. Also its free to fish the Itchen carrier where as at Dever springs it will cost you another £50 to fish the Dever.
It is a wonderfully tranquil and scenic fishery and the lakes are gin clear.
So hopefully that has shed a bit light for you and convinces you to have a cast at possibly a personal best trout

If you have never visited Avington before then you will definitely have to, not necessarily on this occasion but sometime. But it would be great if you could.

Hi, Was Robbie Winram running it then, He has moved on to the reservoir scene now, and it is being run by Sam Seall (previouely at Meon Springs).
The staff are fantastic and they want you catch fish so you enjoy the day and come back.
There are a lot of big fish in there.

Jamie,
Do you remember when I saw you at Chailey the other day?
We stayed at Bellbrook in Devon for a few days last week. Apparently I caught the biggest fish out of there for a few years!
8lb 8oz so should win me a Troutmater fish off next year!! I'm happy with that smile

Well done Mate, That's a good fish from there.
Looked for you yesterday but it was far to busy.
I will wait a week or so, then I will book the people in that want to go, so could you let me know soon if you would like to go.
Many thanks
Jamie

I'll try to make it. I have one of the other well known big fish stalking waters on my doorstep (Lechlade) but haven't fished there yet either.

That is a good water to fish to but that is harder to fish I think. Best time there was when we were able to fish off of the bank by the house because half the lake was frozen but I love avington It is such a peaceful place to be and fairly easy in the morning but we tend to spread it out over the day because the price is high to get our monies worth.

I'd love to join you. Not been there for years. Last time was a staff outing from Hardy's in what felt like about 1856.

What a great idea to organise this biggrin

Thankyou very much, I just wanted to combine my 2 passions of fly fishing and cars.
If still you have the Hardy rod and reel that you used in 1856 I would gladly give you 50 of our English pounds for them smile.

Hi all, Just a bit of a bump, and for those of you who wish to fling your fluff, what would be the better date, either mid September or October, and if a list could be started that would be great for numbers to pre book for us. If we get 20 anglers we may get to have the place to ourselves but I will have to confirm with Sam, We can have use of the lodge if there 5 or more for drinks etc and they also do a breakfast for about £10, or I may be able to get a nice breakfast for us at the Trout Inn which is only 5 minutes away.
It is also a great place for novice anglers as you only need to cast a short distance and its nice to see the fish chase the fly, and they can supply tackle aswell (although I can supply a few people with some too if you don't want to hire it).
I will also tie up some flies that are very productive for everyone to use.
Although I cant guarantee the weather or the size of the fish, I can promise a good day out with great people in a very nice setting.
So if you would like to join us, please put your name down
Many thanks
Jamie

Holy thread resurrection!

Did this ever come off?

Anyone else fancy joining me on something like this as a PH fly fishing group?
