Is entry to the circuit to spectate the track session possible?
Yes - if you are part of the Sunday Service you'll be able to spectate.

JD
Excellent, thank you.

Yep, it is all open. Enjoyed watching the cars fly by last time...with no risk to my car smile

The breakfast was great too...and surprisingly reasonable.

Bugger it!, clashes with my mum's 80th birthday bash. One day events will conspire to allow me to attend an SS, at long last !!

There is a later novice session, but I can't actually get through to silverstone to book it.
Let me know if this continues to be the case - I'll chase them from this end if so!

Judging by the posts immediately before mine other people were on the phone to them. Will try again on Monday.

Been quoted £65 (with £1000 excess) for track day cover.

- is this reasonable, or is there someone else I should ring?

- should I risk it without? Planning on going in the novice section and coasting round to be fair

Rather depends what you're insuring doesn't it?

Like the man said, it depends entirely on what you're insuring. I guess you need to weigh up if you think a crash is likely to result in more that £1,065 worth of damage. Equally, £65 buys you peace of mind which is nice too.

One other thing to consider is if there is an upper limit to the pay out - make sure this covers the total cost of your car (I've seen some track day / race policies before that have a high excess and relatively low maximum pay out)

That said, I was following the Porsche 996 in my F430 at the last Sunday Service before he wrote it off against the Silverstone pit wall. I didn't bother with insurance as I wasn't planning to get into trouble. Just shows what a dice roll it is.

Sorry, forgot to mention its only an Evo 5 worth about £7k on a good day.

Most insurance companies I've rung woudn't pay out in the event of someone else hitting me, and wouldn't pay for third party damage.

Given that I plan to find some clear space and coast round I think I'll roll the dice. I'm more worried about mechanica breakdown to be fair .

Given that it doesn't cover someone hitting you and you rightly plan to find some space and have some fun it sounds like you could take your gamble.

I was considering getting insurance but if it doesn't cover someone hitting me then I'm not going to bother. I'm going to do the same as you and make sure I stay out of everybody's way and just have some fun. I guess it's all about knowing your limits and not letting the adrenalin/male ego get the better of you, that's when the limits are pushed too far.

I'm assuming the track sessions will not be accompanied by any silverstone staff? ie in the car with you? Or did I miss that bit.

Also any info on hiring helmets? Can we organise that over the phone also?

Thanks.

Instructors are available on the day, as is helmet hire. Both at additional cost.

Yes, but they will need to wear a crash helmet too.
