Hi. My first post coming right up.

Anyone doing this this year. 21st falls on a Thursday? I wouldn't be able to make the Saturday though.
I have a hotel booked for the evening of the 20th so I can be at the start easily on the 21st. All being well, I will be there.

Sorry, but I know I started the thread last year, and was then unable to come down. I actually couldn't bring myself to even read the thread afterwards. Everything is now back to normal and I hope to be going for it.

New car this year that does more mpg and has a bigger tank - should do it with one fuel stop. The old one might just have needed two stops as its range was about 250 miles.

Where abouts have you booked. I will be coming from Bedford, so a fair way to get to the start.

If I tell you that I might get my Nissan Mica nicked off the car park smile

Actually, Premier Inn near Newquay.
At least coming from Bedford means you have a relatively short drive home in the morning... I have around 250 miles back.

Coming in from Essex, so, booked into a Travelodge in Plymouth for Wed night.
Nice easy tootle down in the morning, then a relaxing PM by the sea, ready for the off.

If you guys are planning to meet up somewhere, let me know, it would be good to put faces to names

I will try for a drive out this year, having been foiled by my mother’s late notice birthday party in 2017z I think that I will aim for Sat 23rd.

Hopefully the weather will be nice so I can have the roof down.

That's a fair point with having to take 3 days off work for me to take part. Next year sounds like a better option for me too..

I'm very tempted to do the hat-trick in a row, just for the craic. I work shifts so the 21st-22nd are my days off anyway.

Funds are tight as i'm saving for a house deposit, so i'll most likely be running a knackered old Saab 9-3 shed.

Last year we were only the 3rd car to arrive, in a MK2 MR2, at around 3.45am. That might be our target to beat this year.

There's always a group that do it on the 21st and a group that do it on the closest saturday too. If you can't make the 21st then there will be others doing it on the saturday.

Sadly there are a couple of shows that weekend which I plan on attending.

I'm all booked for hotel in Torquay, as I've friends there. Asked for a late check out so fingers crossed I can have a bit of a lay in. Then got most of afternoon to drive to LE. Where do some of you plan on meeting before the off? I've never been to LE so unsure of the parking restrictions. Any advice would be grateful

Do a Streetview recce. It will be worth it, especially if you are turning up in the dark.

What day are you planning to do it?

Google says the solstice is on Thursday morning at 11:07.

For those of you who have done it in the past, how many of you were flying solo and would it have been easier with a wingman?
When I did this with a mate I didn't want to go the way my sat nav was sending me (M3).

Luckily, my mate is an HGV driver and knew exactly how to get to the A303, which was useful!

I've not done this run, but I have done many similar runs.

My top tip is PLAN, PLAN, PLAN.

Stupid things like knowing exactly where the toilets are at the petrol station could make the difference between success and failure.

Know your Plan B routes on either side of your Plan A route.

Use the sections where you can't push it to sort out your admin and relax, but keep the speed up. Cruise control is a big advantage, if you have it - I did JOGLE in 13hrs52min without breaking the speed limit. I couldn't have done it without CC.
