Hi Globalfish, apologies if my reply was a bit punchy, I read your post quickly and my initial reaction was that it just seemed a bit negative which i'm sure wasn't your intent.

The Wilton Wakeups are really nice low key, friendly events, just like the Goodwood Breakfast clubs used to be before they became so massively popular. There were some lovely American classics and moderns there on Sunday, Bellini's being one of them, and it would just seem bit sad to me to dismiss any replicas and walk on by without talking to the owners or understanding a bit more about them but of course that's down to personal preference.

As for my CAV GT40, please believe me I'm not deluded, she's a fake but a very lovely one that brings a smile to my face and others wherever she goes. A couple of points on GT's, the Gulf liveried cars were only ever track cars I believe, so that's usually an immediate giveaway as to a replica if you see one on the road, also. apart from the engine, the originals were built in Slough, so yes your GM is likely to have far more DNA with the USA than an original GT40! ( and even more diverse, CAV's are built in South Africa!)

And also. apologies, I wasn't inferring that you'd said you had a GT40, I was having a pop (again!) and my comments on originality were a general nod to the fact that a lot of original GT40s now (like many old race cars) are far from 'original', in fact there's a thread over on Classic Cars and Yesterday Heroes suggesting than many cars we see racing at historic meets are in fact replicas.

So the upshot of all that is indeed 'each to there own' and quite right too. Get yourself along to Wilton if you're ever out West, it's worth a visit and the event donates to charity also.

Regards,

Simon

Nice pics, bit disappointed today to be honest, far too many new/late cars.... thought there would be more 80's classics... only a couple...
I felt dissapointed when I attended the Italian Meet earlier in the year, numerous cars got into the house area that weren’t special or Italian and some stunning Italian metal left in the overflow car parks.

Probably what’s stopped me making the journey again, and the huge line for breakfast.

No worries Simon,

I probably didn't come across too good from the start either. Anyway, we've cleared the air there so lets' carrying on enjoying what we love. Who knows, I just may come & say 'Hi' at an event in the future.

All the best & Safe driving

Regards

Mark
