We've driven our Aston to Tuscany for a motoring holiday and have just left the above exhibition at the Palazzo Pitti, an offshoot of the Uffizi Museum.
Featuring black and white photos, racing ephemera and engines from the great days of the Italian road races between the 1930's and '60's, it is wonderful. Of course, the pics were mainly of Italian cars driven mainly by Ascari, Fangio, Biondetti and the like, but Stirling Moss and Dennis Jenkinson in their Mercedes were also prominent, as were several British drivers in Jaguars, Astons and Austin Healeys.

There was also a continuous 20 minute clip of that fabulous British motor racing movie of the late 1950's " Check Point ". The last time we saw that film was at a private showing by the
AMOC in Hampstead

Well worth a visit.

Bugger, spent three hours trawling round there last week, room after room of religious paintings, a few cars would have made it a bit more interesting.

Florence is probably my favourite city of all the places I've ever visited. Just lovely!

Amigo, the motoring exhibition would have made things WAY more interesting !

Hubby was especially pleased. He saw that he could fit into the racing leathers and overalls on display ( maybe not Mike Hawthorn's, but certainly those of Fangio ). Given that his family nickname is " El Chubbo "...................too many steak dinners and bottles of fine claret ! ",
he was pleased to discover that famous racing drivers had a circumference similar to
his own !

You are so right ! Apart from the stunning architecture and incredible statues, as an owner of a miniature Boston terrier, I just loved talking to other owners ( of whom there were hundreds ) about their particular tiny pups.
