Just seen this footage on YouTube of a Facebook arranged meet. Check out the car snaking away at 11:24 ish. Before that the organiser appeared to nearly get run over.

Am I missing something this just doesn’t look like fun.

Cba to watch much of it but that's the A25 between Reigate and Dorking - looks like somewhere I don't want to be. The police won't be having that again I would hazard a guess....

That's why I wish people wouldn't advertise small meets here on the events section - small pub car parks that have friendly meets with an eclectic mix of cars end up with a bunch of tts attending which spoils it for everyone.

A good example is the Black Swan. Started being pushed on here and it's changed the whole feel of the meet with people now organising the parking and massive queues for food. Can't be arsed going any more which is a shame as I used to use to as a monthly catch up with some contacts there.

Ok, so I have a confession to make. I was there......bear with me!

I was sent a message via an acquaintance to the Surrey Super Car Meet Facebook page and I submitted my interest in attending this meet in my Westfield thinking it was a petrolhead, car enthusiasts meet much like our own Sunday Service type events, a few boring supercars but also some interesting stuff aswell and on the Sunday morning of the meet it was a dry but cold day, I was up early so thought, yeah lets drive the 20 minutes to Reigate and have a look. I was aware that there were only 70 parking spaces and potentially 300 were turning up but I thought I’d get there for 8:45 for a 9:00 start.

When I arrived it was mayhem, the pub’s car park was already full and cars where parked on both sides of the road, I managed to squeeze into a space immediately opposite the pub behind the dark green Lambo Performante.

From the outset I realised I was completely outside my comfort zone....the place was just full of....how can I put this kindly.....chavvy knobheads in Mclarens, R8’s, M3s and Lamborghinis wandering around, dragging their knuckles on the floor baying for the next cocktard to spin their wheels up on the road outside the pub and 18 year old wannabie ‘infuencers’ with their cameras out videoing it all for their fking you tube site.

There were a small smattering of ‘interesting’ cars, a couple of old highly tuned Mk1 and 2 escorts, one or two muscle cars and a few lotuses etc but the rest were just boring new, shiny supercars. The really disheartening thing about it all was that this was all about showing off. There was no camaraderie between the owners like you see and Sunday Service/Goodwood breakfast etc. Just camera phones and loud exhausts.

Suffice to say, I won’t be attending another one! laugh

A friend (owns a boring black Huracan!! I'd give my right arm for) invited me along, but with salty roads and an early start, decided to give it a miss.

Another concern, echoing the post above was when I looked on YouTube at a previous meet and, yes, far too many people wheel spinning out of the venue and driving up & down the narrow road too quickly.

I'd rather not have my car damaged by an out of control idiot.

It's just downright dangerous, let alone fun or not.

The issue is that there is so much power be laid down on the road and when the guy behind the wheel can't control it or they they cannot be aware of the next unsuspecting obstacle that might appear in front of them, there will be tears.

I am afraid to say that some of the Goodwood B/fast clubs are like this on departure where the main road outside becomes a race track for a brief period.

For the many years we went to Le Mans. As a lot of you know, there was this thing called "Mad Friday". You used to be able to drive like a loony around the roads that formed part of the track for the weekend. Back in the 1990s and before, it was only a smattering of motors and the bhp was not like it is today anyway.

It had been getting worse though through the 90s decade as the power and the increased volume of cars with power sort of used the roads as a race track, with the French locals in their Renault 4s and 5s, wondering what was going on. It was getting more and more dangerous.

Then down at Indianpolis , there was an incident that a lot of us witnessed. They were doing drag starts and one guy let off in something, lost control and side swiped a good number of motors all parked up on the grass verge beside the road. Then legged it.

The fortune was that the crowds were more towards where the cars were starting out, not once they had picked up speed (and where this one had lost it). There were just cars there. Imagine though is people were 10 deep watching this, as they were on some areas and car just goes straight into the crowd.

I have seen it before. I wasn't old - merely 30 - and even then, there could have been fatalities. No fun in that, IMHO.

What’s amusing on the footage is there’s a couple of “rude boy” type cars which appear to just go up and down that road.

The mind boggles. Are their lives that empty. I guess this is what a Facebook arranged meet brings to the table.

That piece of road was full of potholes so there were probably some damaged tyres/wheels.

That pub wouldn't accept meal bookings for more the 15 people so I doubt if any of those present went into the pub.

How no one ever got injured on the Houx Annex roundabout on mad Friday amazed me. Some no doubt talented drivers but many talentless and with the entire inside and outside of the roundabout packed with crowds. That said, I miss it now the gendarmes put a stop to it.

@ 7:05 - you have to be a bit 'special' to do a #11 right in front of an unmarked police car. wobble
Any petrolhead with two functioning Mk1 eyeballs should have been able to spot the strobes in the front grille.

The travelling circus was not content with that. It moved on to Cobham Services for a repeat performance.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2cko8yHXyw - the VRM @21:55 says it all... rolleyes

^^This^^

Pretty standard fare for SCM meets.

The first one I went to back in 2017 was fairly low key.
Some quite interesting metal including a lovely early 1980s C3 Corvette.

Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that it was atypical. The next one I went to was just as you describe.
If only I had looked on Youtube first I would have realised what I was letting myself in for. rolleyes

I'm on the same page: never again. biggrin

The guy in the E36 M3 just after 7.00 deserved tugging. It was pretty easy to see the lights in the grill and on the dash of the Beemer on the other side!

Might as well be a group of teenagers parked up in a Tesco car park.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m going to need to rewatch the link, as I didn’t notice the police. Must have been distracted by muppetry.

Totally agree with all comments the SCM car meets have turned into meets for lambo/Mclare/R8 look at me !
used to enjoy the pistonheads meets that were either at the grasshopper / Redhil aerodrome, unfortunately these dont happen anymore ! so doesnt leave a lot of choice roll on the Goodwood breakfast club start somewhere you can have a good spirited run out and see some nice cars from all genre's

SCM has gone to pot. I've been to their very first meets, which was actually at the Grasshopper. Had a very PH Southeast meets of old feel about it, was fun.

Now it's very much an attention-fest with knobish driving.

Think I was 19/20ish when I first went to Le mans, circa 2009, 2nd time a little more mature (maybe) when I was 24/25.

First time was great and the Mad Friday thing was a bit mental, certainly one of the highlights of the weekend. Seemed great at the time, but stupid looking back really but we were having beers in the sun and just acting like Brits abroad.

2nd time was far more reserved, police obviously had things in hand and any mad Friday stupidity was quickly quelled.

can see why...

nah he just fell over. Plan was to jump out and rip his boxers off then jump back in the boot. But he couldnt rip them, fell over and my mate drove off and left him so you can see him walking up the road in his boxers in the burnout photo
