I had no idea this was going on just 10 minutes drive from me. I had a good time and saw some really interesting cars and more importantly chatted with some really interesting car folk. Definitely one for the calendar.

smile

You couldn't accuse it of not being varied, that's for sure.

(Thumbsnap AI tags this one as "a red and white truck parked in front of a building") rofl

That BAC Mono looks amazing. I missed it at the meet but spotted it at the BP services on the A3 fueling up later. It was certainly turning heads on the forecourt.

Anyone know how many have been produced and what they cost?

Can't be many on the road

There are about 140 so far of the originals and they've just started delivering the Mono r, with a revised aero package and more power (as if it really needed that).

I think that the base price now is around £170K + options (carbon wheels and brakes, visible carbon body, custom paint etc) and most seem to come out at around £230K I think.

You spend quite a bit of time filling them up as they have a foam filled tank and so you have to fill it very slowly if you don't want petrol on your shoes....

I had a chat with the owner…he’s built Caterhams in the past and was liking his new toy. I must admit that I think it would be a very frustrating car to drive on the South East’s busy roads. He doesn’t take it out for ‘country road’ , Sunday drives because it needs to be ‘driven’ which basically means that he shows it at meets and does track days. Personally that would leave me thinking what could I buy for the best part of £200,000 that was a track only car…there’s a lot of choice!

Saw this MG Xpower SV hiding away in the small car park.

This Starlet track day car was very tidy looking.

Civic EK9 Type R - these are rare!

Funny isn’t it….that you have posted up the three cars that I’d least want. They are all awful! IMO

Was a great morning, some real gems, many stand out cars, don’t let the grass area put anyone off, there were lowered/splittered cars navigating it quite comfortably.

They have one on the 5th June which is the bank holiday Friday, in case anyone wasn’t aware.

That's me LB

I had a terrific time at the meeting. It's funny, I've lived around here for 20 years or so and had no idea this event existed. I will make a note of the dates when the Black Swan event is on. It's great to meet such a varied bunch of car enthusiasts and their amazing machines.

re the Mono, yes it's a bit extreme for road use, you definitely need a more sedate road car for country drives (I have an NSX and a 997.1) You can of course buy cheaper track only cars, but then you have to faff about with trailers. The beauty of the Mono is you can drive to the circuit, spend a day and then drive home. It is also just about the only single seater you can drive on a non-test day. I'm not good enough a driver to drive on real test days with actual racing drivers so it's perfect for me. There are some pretty serious drivers amongst the Mono owners who have set lap records at Spa and elsewhere in them. I confine my road use to early in the morning when the traffic is light if I can.

The central driving position and stressed drivetrain (the rear suspension is bolted to the engine/ gearbox, there are no engine mounts) make it much more intense than any other road car or most track cars for that matter. It's not for everyone, but it's a pretty unique proposition. I'm trying to put together some YouTube videos to explain how it is to drive.

If any one wants to have a closer look at it, as I said, we sometimes drive from Ockham on a Sunday and you'd be very welcome to join. Just PM me and I'll let you know when.

I go there most months as there is just so much variety, and was there last Sunday.

It's a great morning out looking at pristine examples of cars I had as daily drivers decades ago and cars I lusted after but couldn't afford!

That's very true, it's always possible to go one better!

Wasn't me though when the helicopter arrived, last Sunday was the first time I've been to the meeting. I'll definitely go again though, great fun. smile
