Aha! One or two thimgs the Tom tom can't handle, like

1. Where's Zuiderzee, the cunningly named Southern Sea in the north of the Netherlands?

2. How to pronounce Afsluitdijk? (once the spelling has been mastered)

3. How do the fresh-water and salt-water fish know which side they are supposed to be? And stay there?

3. How can a windMILL be a windPUMP?

4. How much soup and how many buns can one human consume in 24 hours?

Maybe a 1.5 metre plasma in the car next time.... drink

Well, I'm back too... :-P

Dinky and Joop thanks for organizing this trip, it was fantastic, as usual, we can now say after this 3rd installment!!
To my pleasant surprize the food was actualy sufficient, that is a first for me on a road trip, kudo's for that!! :-)

Extra thanks for Elco, picking me up on the way and dropping me off on the way back, Joop for beeing my chauffeur for the Saturday and Stephen for letting me co-pilot his Porsche on Sunday!

Elco's Lyk I've driven before and it always (almost :-P) delivers, Joop's BMW is fast, faster than I would have expected for a 325, and very comfy at the same time, cracking car mate!
Stephen's Porsche is a different beast but awesome, it is rougher than the BMW but that's actualy more to my taste, I like that! :-)

The last leg on Sunday in the rain behind Elco and Ollie was one for the history books!

Everybody thanks for the laughs and untill next time! :-)

From Zandvoort on we went further up north - for most unknown territory - through the Bloemendaal Northsea BlvD, Kenemerduinen, passing rich mans villages and on to IJmuiden. Through Corus steel factories straight to the tulipfields Sophie loves so dearly. It was a bit of sightseeing really, not so much need for speed. Wot? Almost 3? Lunchtime again wink

We had a table inside this shack. Fortunately the sun still shone to enjoy a glass outside with a view on the massive dune that comes straight into the village Schoorl.

I hopped in Stephens very well sorted 968 Porker - a fav, next to the 2nd gen 928 - and enjoyed it to bits. It's GTish rather than a hardcore sportscar. The massive built quality adds to the experience: the car feels rock solid, as Aram would agree.
With David and Lut in the Alfa in front of us the skies looked promising.

Or didn't they?

With the Afsluitdijk ahead we felt the urge to make some progress . . . As we did together with Ollie 'Santa Pod' Monaro. No match . . .

King of the hill.
Sunday I was co-piloting in Elcos Skyline: my money would be on the Jap in a q-mile. One day we will know.
Maybe August 21st: http://www.dutchquartermile.com/

The little 2000 spider looks right on the money here.

Sad to hear that Ollie, hoping all is fixed soon and at little cost.

That's how I do it Stephen: my Spa6-blog is running since early October and will have its last photo-update this eve wink

Butch!

The sound of the wide open spaces.

Our fleet attracted the few Monument visitors. Unlike Autobahn parkings we did not see one copper here.

Loving the C5 silhouette. Joop working on Dans 350i.

Chimaera R&R!

More to come . . .

smile Many thanks to Dink and Joop for putting together a fantastic route through the many non tourist parts of the Netherlands.
I’m not sure how we quite often managed to be elsewhere, I guess my old steam driven Garmin street pilot is showing its age wobble.

Top effort Elco, thanx!

A few captions:
> The run to IJmuiden pier I was with Stepens stiff 968. At 0:16 secs we shot by as a bit unaware of the fact we had opposite traffic. Oopsy.

> 0:38 we pass the canal to Amsterdam. The route across the sea-sluice is one way traffic: happy we did not have a Murcielago with us! The houses at 1:02 are actually a residential area . . .

> 2:00 I think this is Santpoort. Only rich people living there. Watch the buss at 2:30: narrow escape!

> at 2:57 we enter our first lunch stop at the Zandvoort track.

> 5:01 Kennemerduinen :cough:

> 6:23 it turned out to be a wonderfull day as the dark clouds faded away and made way for sunny skies. Still at touristic pace to enjoy the colourfull tulip fields.

> 8:50 entering our 2nd lunch stop at Schoorl dunes.

> 0:30 after way too much minutes of slow traffic we could not hold in any longer and had a brief relief.

> 1:35 tidy driving towards the Afsluitdijk wink

> 2:45 The famous Monument by Dudok.

> 4:00 on our way to Bolsward.

> 7:00 Psssh!

> 8:10 "Hi Greg 'n Hillary!"

Great fun.

Our quest for 98! Pretty dramatic skies on that first legge.

2nd day was a bit quicker eh? Even a few tunnels, although not as loud as the Wassenaar one . . .

Well done, enjoyed it as a play back memory.
