I started going to the Chelsea Cruise when it was actually on the Kings Road. The crowds used to get to ten deep, it was crazy. I actually cruised my own rod for about ten years back in the day. They were great events back then .

Its nice to see they are getting back to the origins of the cruise and how it used to be.
I recall going to that too, must have been in the mid/late 70's, twas mainly American muscle cars and a chopped roofed rods
Yes I am actually that old laugh I started going in the late 70's right up to the early 90's just as the hot hatch crowd started to take the fun out of it. I rarely missed a month. I have thousands of old photo's lying around, I must did them out and scan them on sometime.

I'm sure this was featured on a BBC3 program about boy racers and the dangers of irrepsonsible driving. It just looked like lines and lines of kids and people old enough to know better in terribly modded Saxos and Corsas, with the oversized alloys doing donuts. The reporter then stood there and made out that it was terribly dangerous because someone was doing a burnout in a car park, which was a bit dramatic I thought. Still, I couldn't actually see the appeal of going to look at all that st, I can't recall seeing a single nice car there, but maybe the cameras just didn't film them. It didn't seem like the kind of place you'd take a nice car tbh.

I think you will find what the Cruise had become. Not what it was. And not how it is now.

So, is there an official or sort-of official organiser for this these days or is it just a case of turn up on the night and see what happens...

A few friends of mine who have some nice old modfied Fords (Anglia and rear drive Escorts) went a couple of months ago and said there were some nice cars there, it seems that it's a non-organised but just turn up kind of event, that's the way they saw it anyway.

Of course, it's always going to be better in the summer when more nice cars are out in the warm, dry evenings on salt free roads, so probably better to wait until summer and go and have a look then.

No probs, just thinking of events for my club later in the year as you say. Sounds like a nice civilised meet with more than the usual to check out!

Try asking in the American car section?

To be honest the last time I went, I got thrown out of Battersea park for not being able to get over the speed ramps because my car was too low! Parks police were more concerned over their bits of tarmac than my car.
The days of parking on Chelsea Bridge and along the side of the park are long gone, its now Bus lanes and triple red lines, posh flats where the power sttion used to be, with moaning residents.
Prince of Wales drive is a minefield of speed ramps.
Then add the Various London charges for using a car. I don't intend to anywhere near London again if I can help it. That mayor Kahn has beaten me frown
UP YOURS London.

You would be better off going to an American car night at the Ace Cafe.
