setting up a set of 1986 Kawasaki GPZ 1000 RX bike carbs on a 2.0 pinto with custom manifold after the set before caught fire, distroying my engine bay,

now i am rebuilding her

has anyone ever set a set of bike carbs up from standard? iv been in touch with a guy at torque tune, he recommended 1.60mm jets, im running 1.55s at the moment so he said just turn the mixture screw on the bottom out x4

i have had her backfire through the carb, one carb has fuel coming out of the front slightly,

fuel is suppled via bike fuel pump, (carbed)
ht leads accuspark 8mm silicone
plugs are copper 3 ground
12v ballast ignition
electronic trigger unit fitted in place of the points/condenser

i need to know roughly what advance of timing i should be running,
should i have to adjust the floats as the carbs are not sat level?

are there any places near to me that know how to setup correctly?

before you go to far get some good filter not cheap ones , k+ns are the best ( cheap copies are NOT any good),you might have to block the main jet ( its the hole in the bottom of the bell mouth in the centre) this is the one in line with the needle. blocking this off richens the mixture a lot which it will need, make sure the slides go up and down together .they should not leak fuel and they work best at as close to the angle they were on the bike .they might also need the slide speed slowing down a bit , this is done by altering the slide hole ,

ok so im guessing your on the same track as the dynojet kits they also drill out the slides.. any idea what size?

i will have a look asap and check the angle of them, what angle will they normally sit at? iv googled a bit but not much luck..

as blocking the main jet goes is there anyway i can temporarly block it? i guess finding a bolt that fits well? or similar... is there any risk of the carb cracking if its two tight a fit?

thanks for the info beer

Dyno jet do drill some of the slides as well , some times I make them smaller !! , you can use thick grease to block the holes for a few runs on the Dyno or sharpen a match stick ,
