We're talking the early 80's boxy thing with Bosch k-jet ignition. ..and if so could you tell me if the Turbo is fitted before or after the Air Flow Meter.

I'm suspecting it would be after it as the air fuel ratio is metered by it and the Turbo has to have a re-circulating BOV or the mixture would get messed up... therefore both the BOV and the re-circulation inlet must be after the Flow Meter. (??)

Cheers chaps.

Don't know myself, but try looking around on www.turbobricks.com, someone there should be able to help...

Looks to me that the turbo is after the airflow meter...

They use Bosck LH Jetronic, 2.2 and 2.4 IIRC. AMM is before the turbo, turbo sucks through it, recirc DV dumps back after the AMM to maintain the correct amount of metered air.

Thanks Chaps

LH-jetronic was indeed used in some, but up to 84-85 the K-jet system was used I'm sure (?).

Great photos Pidgeon Its a bit hard to see, but it indeed looks like the Turbo is tucked in after the AFM in the bottom picture as I think I can see an actuator lurking in there, which would be in agreement with Matt also (and what I suspected)

Thats going to make the pipework much more interesting.. ..aah well

Cheers,
Mmatt

K Jet will be pre turbo AMM/Metering Head.

OK now I'm Really ..why's that then..? I think I need more words to understand what you mean ..also By Air Mass Meter, do you mean the same as the Air Flow Meter or are you thinking of MAP sensors or something.. doesn't the LH system have a Hot wire Air Mass Meter and an ECU..?

Cheers,
Matt

Two forms of Jetronic were used on the bricks, much the same as used on the C900's.

LH Jetronic (Versions 2.2 and 2.4.2 IIRC Electronic Fuel Injection), these use a hotwire AMM, Throttle posision switch (not sensor), temp sensor and RPM input as their main sensors. The Air Mass Meter is posistioned before the turbo, the turbo "sucks" through the AMM.

K Jetronic (Mechanical CS Fuel Injection) K-Jet is complete mechanic with a metering head and air mass plate, the plate moves in relation to the amount of air flow past it, this in turn actuates a plunger on the metering head which increases/decreases the amount of fuel metered to the injectors. There is usualy also a cold start injector on the throttle butterfly. The turbo (like LH) "sucks" through the Air Mass Plate/Metering head.

Hi Matt.

OK thanks.. that all agrees with what I thought.. I was just getting confused by your talk of the LH System..

In case you are wondering, the TVR S1 is a Cologne 2.8 K-jet, hence the question about where the turbo should go.

Answer - After the Air Flow Meter

Cheers again
Matt.

Edited to add... by "After" I mean from the outside.. ie The Air goes: Filter : Air Sensor/Flow Meter : Turbo : Throttle Flap : Engine : Exhaust

No worries chap. Might be a good idea to get a Metering head from a 928 or similar as they have 8 outlets and more flow available. You can use two as 5th and 6th injectors into the plenum. Don't know if your aware but you can machine the metering heads to flow more fuel. Oh and Turbo Technics used to do turbo conversions on the 2.8's IIRC so might be worth having a chat with them, its so long ago now I'm sure they wouldn't mind having a bit of a chat about it.

Cheers
Matt

Hmm.. didn't know the 928 had that too.. I was thinking 911 earlier so a good plan. I tried Turbo Technics before, but they gave up that game ages ago and weren't that useful. I've alse seen the Janspeed kit that was also for the 2.8.

I like the idea of the extra outlets for extra Injectors too on the 928 head.....

Thanks again,
Matt.
