Wotcha
Has anyone tried to change the mains bearings in a rover V8 with the engine in the car?
I've done it before on other engines but thought I'd ask.

Not done it myself but 'heard' it is possible.
Kept it in mind if I had to do it on mine.
Depends if you have the access to do it from underneath.

I think it is common for Rover V8s to require align boring of the mains, so take this into consideration when contemplating in car work.

I remember hearing about that for cam bearings (clout the bearing while you're removing the cam and you could be looking at engine removal/strip to repair it). Didn't know it applied to mains too.

Well it is possible!
Hope so as I've just got back from a 10 mile test drive and the oil pressure is up about 0.5Bar from where it was- No leaks or rattles so far
Damned fiddly though - a top tip to pass on is to fashion an pin that fit snugly into the crank oil way and protrude just enough to hit the shell and not the block. This way I was able to just turn the crank by hand and wind the bearings out.
