Thanks for your replies.

E-bmw, this is not an ABS sensor, this is speed sensor for speedometer to detect car's speed, which is fitted at the back of transferbox, right before the prop shaft. ABS sensor (2 wired) uses a magnetic field to send signal where as in this one, theres a wheel which rotates to send signal.

Steeve, yes we can test it that way but by doing this way, you'd know the voltage reading.

I've discovered something here.....last late night, I drove the car disconnecting the speed sensor. Speedometer didn't work as you'd expect. However, I turned the CRUISE button on and went up to 65mph. Cruise didn't work but it didn't turn itself off- the cruise light was on throughout. So this confirms the speed sensor is the one making the ECU to turn it off.

Another interesting thing here. My steering is intermittently hard when parking and apparently it's related to the speed sensor, claimed by this website: http://www.underhoodservice.com/tech-tip-kia-inter... That's the exact sensor I've got in my car.

A Youtube video showing how to test a 3 wire speed sensor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alR_toPdr4g

If only we had realised the significance of that earlier, that COULD be your issue, the power steering is "speed sensitive" so they probably get their speed info from the same source.

Had an e39 that did exactly that, it was the speed input from one abs sensor which also fed into the power steering system.

Do you know the nature of the output signal from this sensor? It strikes me as unusual to output an analog voltage as a speed signal, and your voltmeter test may not be an appropriate way to test that sensor.

As you know, a multimeter CANNOT be used to fully and properly test the sensor he is trying to test ( unless it's a multimeter with a scope lol )

And disconnecting the speed sensor and trying to operate cruise proves nothing...other than the speed sensor was clearly working in the first place, because the speedo did work fine before...and didnt when unplugged lol
