Could be air leak \ sticking throttle body.
Very hard to tell via the internet, i'm sure a local garage wouldn't mind taking a quick look

Um, you don't take a car to a garage and tell them how or what needs to be fixed, you give them the keys, a description of the problem and leave them to it.
Why you persevere with a problem for so long and then attempt to fix it before selling kind of escapes me, if it was good enough for you it will be good enough for someone else. Sell it and emigrate.

Edited for pleasantness wink

The first thing I would do is replace the fuel filter and remove and clean the throttle body using carburettor cleaner. A local garage or ned in shed should do it for very little

Unfortunately with no experience, trying to fix this will be incredibly difficult.

It could be as simple as a loose hose, sticking throttle or idle valve, dirt around these items etc etc etc...or something electronic etc. But it will be experience and going through some logical tests to try and establish what.

A Haynes manual at a few quid might be of more use, given you can refer to it at any time, but some tests may involve diagnostic tools that if you dont do such work...are unlikely to have etc

Hmmm...Ok, maybe I'll just take it to a garage. It's just last time I had the exhaust fixed I mentioned this issue and they said they didn't know what it could be.

Thanks for all you help everyone!

It's a minor issue and no guarantee the cause can be easily or cheaply found. Live with it.

Failing that, it is an 02 Corsa, it can't be worth significantly more than £800 & isn't worth spending much on to fix it.
