For anyone interested, I have created a website to archive the Duratec in Detail Facebook page in an index-able format. The Website is at DuratecInDetail.com and looks at the 2L and 2.5L Duratec engines in various states of tune up to 300 BHP NA. It also covers a Sadev sequential and Geartronics paddle shift installation, and a few failures failure too.

Interesting, thanks for posting.

I casually look at the Duratec engine builder market and I'm intrigued to an extent.

From what I can see, the power of the Duratec seems to be getting forever higher, but it is not so much the power that is intriguing.

Torque per litre or BMEP.

I see seller advertising engines with torque per litre/BMEP numbers which are at, and sometimes above the limits of what is possible.

93.8lbft litre with a BMEP of 16Bar? Same as the last of the NA F1 engines then?

There is even one company claiming 248lbft from a 2.5! Really? 16.91Bar BMEP? VE in the region of 130%?

I suspect that as this is such a competitive market, there has been some creeping "excellence" in the c laims.

BTW, why do you use SAE J607 as a correction factor on the Mainline dyno? SAE J607 gives you an extra 8hp over SAE J1349.

I tend to trust that the operators know what they are doing at the rolling road sessions, but you are right, those session where not the most accurate, and one back to back session with Northampton Motor Sport produced a 30 BHP difference in 24 hour period. That particular dyno was just used for the Super Lap Scotland Championship power check (classed by power to weight) so it was really just relative to other cars in the championship.

Northampton Motor Sport was the main rolling road used for mapping and we saw a consistent results there. But we seldom saw over 90 lbsft per litre, I agree that many commercial suppliers are quoting figure that can't be correct, and I suspect that their customers don't know any better. Being too honest with customers often doesn't win sales.

The website appears not to be working? 500 or 401 errors.

Yes, it's down at the moment - looks like a bit of malicious activity may have taken place. I will try and get it back up as soon as possible.

All very interesting, thanks for putting the time into it

I would benefit from an engine builder as meticulous as you to enhance my R53 Cooper S haha

My next project is a Duratec in a Fisher Fury plus trying to sort the tippy ticky Fiesta ST150 I Run as a daily.
All this is good readership stuff for me
Thanks
