My peugeot 308 (petrol 1.6) has an increasingly troublesome issue when , while normal driving, or accelerating and particularly starting up on a cold morning the car stutters and bumps . Sometimes I can put my foot down on the accelerator and there is no increase in revs.

When the car warms up, this issue is not as severe, but there are still slight hesitation and juddering. in all gears at all speeds.

I have no warning messages from the EMS , I can't smell fuel although it 'feels' as if it is flooding.

The car takes a while to heat up, but does get to 90c eventually, and the heating system takes ages too., but even at normal temps it has a slight judder/hesitation. My main concern is it dying on me at start up, which it did today, going up hill..the revs just dropped even though my foot was down on the accelerator pedal. A few seconds later it picks up again and revs increase...the pedal isn't 'slack' it's just that occasionally nothing happens.

Any ideas welcome...thank you

Had issues with the coolant temp sensor - the one that tells the ecu how hot/cold the engine is - on my wife's 306 1.6 petrol with the TU engine which included cutting out at junctions but would usually restart without further issue & be fine for days/weeks until it became a regular occurrence.

Diagnostic by local Peugeot specialist using Peugeot Planet showed nothing & the same result from another local electronic specialist. Only suggestion was to keep driving until it cut out & wouldn't restart which it duly did.

Recovered to the local dealer & fault showed as failed sensor. New one fitted & all OK.

No idea whether this is your problem but you did mention you felt as though it was flooding & in our case the restarts were accompanied by black smoke.

You say no warning messages, but have you scanned for codes? If you've got an Android phone, buy a cheap Bluetooth OBD2 adapter and see if it's showing anything.

I have the same issue with my car (modified Honda Civic so not the same car by a stretch) and it’s a dodgy injector!

Thanks for that - i'll look into this. Ironically I took it into the garage this morning, after I'd defrosted it...and while it took20 minutes to get to temperature..and it was okay, the mechanic had a drive - no problems ! Typical isn't it. They're going to have it overnight and see what a cold start is like to try and replicate the issue. For some reason until they witness it themselves they seem reluctant to do anything. He did say these are bad for air locks, especially after a flush and refill, so he'll try and sort that too. Not sure if the heating of the car (which is poor) is related to the juddering. Your comment might be the key though, thanks

When I first took it in they said a variable valve incoherence had been reported, but then said to take it to another local garage who had the 'proper' diagnostic for a peugeot...he said unlikely the solenoids would be faulty, but could be gunged up..suggested an oil flush and refill with oood oil and new filter and clean the solenoids...that was done, but the issue hasn't gone away. I'll look into the BluetoothOBD2 adaptor, thank you

Interestingly it did have a new injector, a while ago. Can't remember if this followed on from that..I'll have a look in my receipts - thank you
