OK so took car to garage with knocking noise, I suggested it might be buckled alloy wheel or balancing/tracking etc.
Got a call and they said "oh its the drive shaft" OK so took it back in they put new driveshaft on it.
Collected car drove home...still knocks?
What should i do? Take it back?
Why did they not test drive it?

These arent always as straightforward as it seems.

But if you told them to fix the noise and the noise is not fixed, and their process/costs were not explained prior to spending...again, there are issues.

Why did they think it was the shaft ?

Not sure, i took it in to have them look at the alloys as like i said i thought it was those as they were new to me, but 2nd hand. Car seemed fine before the alloys went on.
Anyway when they test drove it they said it was drive shaft, so I booked it in and they fitted drive shaft and knocking still there.

In hind sight i am an idiot, but even an idiot has some rights? I hope....

I will take the car back tomorrow and simply try the approach of "still knocks can you take a look or at least drive it" and see what reaction they have.

The car had passed an MOT weeks before and no mention of drive shaft issues, so not sure if that would be picked up on MOT? But bit of added info.
Also they quoted £150 all in for drive shaft but actual bill was £250. Said it took longer than expected.

As i type this i want to punch myself in the head...so those thinking it..I already have...

Don't do that. Take the mechanic/service manager out in it and let him hear the noise.

As above, you really need to highlight what you are hearing to whoever the mechanic etc might be.

What you might be hearing knocking and what they might be hearing if they did drive...may not always be the same thing.

FFS I recall a friend chasing a rattle in a car under warranty....they'd the whole interior of the car pulled apart, dashboard, everything.

In the end it turned out the rattle the owner was hearing, was some stupid fking thing the owner had hanging off the interior mirror when they were driving ! But they took out out of the car when they left it in for the warranty work.

It wasnt until they went out in the car with the owner they actually found the noise they were talking about !

And most MOT's will highlight sweet FA, as it seems most are just a vague glance at a car at best. Although if it was something major causing the knock, like a suspension part, then maybe....maybe something should have been spotted. But it's just not as simple as that without hearing the noise.

Spoke to the garage and its in Thursday and i will take a mechanic out in it....but

Just went to swap over some winter wheels to see if the knocking is something stupid like the alloys and noticed the drivers side wheel hub bolt thing looked all shiny...checked passenger side and its black....so bit more looking i discovered they changed the wrong side to the side they first diagnosed....

they did off side, went in to get near side.... oh dear.
