Our W169 A Class Merc has recently developed an electric window issue. It’s started on the drivers side, but a few weeks later the passenger side started to do it too.

When you open the window, the one touch down works sometimes and sometimes you have to hold the button. Going up the one touch works, but when the window reaches the top it then drops a couple of inches. To close it fully, you have to use short presses of the button until it just shuts.

Speed of the glass movement seems normal and there are no odd noises from the mechanism

This issue may or may not be connected with main driver (not me!) opening the windows to scrape the frost off on frozen mornings...

Anyone know how I might diagnose what’s wrong?

You need to fully drop the window, then press & hold the up & keep it held while the window goes fully up, then keep it held for another 5 seconds.

This is the normal process for resetting the anti trap function of the window.

You Sir, are a legend. Back to normal operation. Had to hold them in the up position for quite a bit longer than 5 secs for it to take.

I had visions of stripping doors down and needing new regulators. Big relief.
