A small plastic vacuum connector has snapped on our Combo van and Vauxhall are a bit vague as to what part it is and what it does!
They think I have to buy a whole system that is £300 odd so I need to be sure first.

The part fits where the arrow is

To help identify the system.

The broken part.
Any help would be appreciated as I hope I can get one from a breaker once I know how to describe it.

The broken part looks awfully like a trigger wheel sensor.
But if there's a holes down the middle, it can't be.
Is there a toothed wheel inside, that it would point at?

Looks like a takeoff from the vacuum pump ?

Not sure if that part would be available from a dealer...it bolts on so probably should be

Or buy a used pump with it already on. Lots seem to have metal pipe, this has plastic ? Presume it's the same sort of thing.

If you cleaned it up well, it would probably epoxy up ok, but do give the epoxy plenty of time to cure.

Running without it.....probably no boost, but also limited or no power assistance to your brakes.

Thanks for the help chaps.
It is indeed the vacuum pump takeoff and despite being easily removed and worth about £3 Vauxhall in their wisdom do not list it separately and it's part of the pump at £250 Trade!
Hopefully sourced one on eBay, there was only 1 listed so fingers crossed at £18.

Looks like a sensor rather than something controlling or connecting anything. If that's connected to the vacuum pump, presumably the pump won't produce a vacuum with that port open to fresh air. Also, whatever was relying on the vacuum signal won't see it. I have no idea how critical that is. I'd be tempted to run the engine with the port blocked off and see what warnings and fault codes it produced.

It will be the vacuum pump for the servo so without it the brake pedal will be rock hard.

Same engine is used in loads of vehicles, so it should be easy to get another part one way or another.

It isn't open to the air but obviously in the pictures its been removed and does in fact connect to the hose shown.

I tried to get one from Fiat as this engine is as said used in loads of vehicles but it seems that Vauxhall use a different vacuum system and the part is pretty hard to get.

Hoping the eBay one fits!

I thought I was looking at an electrical connector in the lower picture. Is it actually just connecting a hose to the opening?

Yes, from blowing through it it is basically a one way valve/hose connector.

Does the other end go to the brake servo?

Looks like a Pierburg Vacuum pump, its all but certain it will be on other pumps in other cars (make and model) if you can find one. Ford Puma 2.0 use that pump, not sure if the vacuum take off is the same though.

Well the one that was on the Combo pump I got from eBay fitted fine so at least I got the problem sorted for £18.

Since ordering I have trawled loads of pictures of pumps from supposedly the same type of engine but they all seem to be different so I think I was really lucky dropping on the only one listed on the site.

Thanks for the help, think I will be buying PSA from now on.
