'14 Chevy Captiva Auto towing issue
Discussion
Owned since new... Very much a work horse
2.2lt 184ps diesel 6 speed auto. Book states the auto can tow 1700kg
I'm towing a 450kg 6ft 6in box trailer with aero cone on the front and it does this like there's nothing on there
However after about an hour it goes into a low power mode but nothing comes up on the dash. I've seen low power mode where a lights come up but this isn't doing that. It's like the gearbox is getting too hot and oil can't cope or I'm not sure maybe a sensor issue?
Anyone got any experience or can help. I typically tow at the top end of legal speeds but genuinely don't go much over to save fuel now than anything as it drops from 23-25mpg to high teens
Any help would be appreciated

The chances of such a modern vehicle going into a limp mode and not displaying a CEL or similar is almost zero.
It isnt to say there is some strange fault that is causing the loss of power, but that isnt quite the same as the ecu actually pulling back power deliberately which I cant think of any circumstances it would do this and not throw a warning light.
So when this happens, what do you do ? Stop ? continue ? What needs to happen before normal operation is resumed ? Can you make it go away immediately ? wait for a period ? stop ?

Apologies on the slow reply. If I do a short journey no issues at all but a longer one it just starts losing power. When it completely goes with my foot to the flow it'll sit at 50-60mphIt isnt to say there is some strange fault that is causing the loss of power, but that isnt quite the same as the ecu actually pulling back power deliberately which I cant think of any circumstances it would do this and not throw a warning light.

No lights, burning smell or poor running
If I stop for 5-10 mins it goes back to normal but resumes the problem more quickly
Strangely the engine light came on yesterday so I've booked it again to my chevy garage and hope to sort
