Hi guys, my first post here.

I run a cute little 1955 Austin A30 which had a Morris Marina 1275 A series/BW35 lump grafted in by a previous owner making it a very entertaining drive. Gradually the car has been upgraded to MG Midget/AH Sprite spec with disc + servo brakes etc.

With a lot of motorway driving, especially in the summer, going to the shows around the UK, I decided to fit a transmission cooler. So I bought a Mocal kit from Demon Tweeks and look it down to my local autotrans specialist. He is old school and knows the BW35 very well. He tells me that all that is missing now is the two right-angle unions that replace the blanking plugs for the cooler pipes.

He crawled over his pile of scrap BW35 boxes for me but no luck. He reckons they are tricky to get.

Anyone got any? Or if they are a standard BSP pipe type, anyone know the spec?

Many thanks,

Clive

I don't know anything about that transmission and can't help you directly, but to source the connectors you will need to know the thread they need to screw into, and what connection you want on the other side (hose barb?). If the transmission already has tapped holes in the right place, then identifying the threads should be trivial for an experienced fitter.

Once you know the spec, there are many online suppliers and resellers such as Think, Jegs, CarBuilderSolutions, SpeedFlow, Earls etc and if it's a standard thread you shouldn't have any trouble sourcing the adapter. Worst case scenario if the thread is unobtainable you could either repurpose the blanking plugs or fill and re-tap the trans to suit whatever fitting you want.

Hi and thanks for that.
The autobox has two blanking plugs for a cooler.
I obviously can't take out the ones fitted but may ask around for someone with a dead box and get hold of its plugs.
I may, as a last resort and as you suggest, bore out some plugs and braze on hose fittings. But if I get a plug, I'm pretty sure I should be able to suss out what the thread is. The BW boxes are of US origin of course and may also have been built under licence in the UK so threads should be either US or UK imperial. Pipes in the UK are often "BSP" ( British Standard Pipe ) and still widely available for plumbing and other legacy engineering purposes.
But a lot simpler of course to get the actual fittings off a dead BW35, one of the most widely used autoboxes ever made.
So if anyone can provide me with either the actual fittings or two blanking plugs, I'll make it worth they're while.
