0.3? Yes I just split the difference, sorry.
You're probably not far off with your random guess. I'll write a technical article on it if I can muster the enthusiasm. In the meantime I suggest you lay the cams in their journals and see how much they rock. Push one end down and use feeler gauges to measure the gap at the other end. Then do the oven trick and see what happens and let us know.Mignon said:

Mignon do heads only warp one way, (centre up and ends down)? what if it bends the other way (centre down and ends up) then the cam(s) wouldn`t rock, shirley.

Yes they only warp one way IME. The gasket face is always concave and the top side convex. I've seen cams that rocked like barstewards in OHC heads and with the CVH where the cam fits inside the head into circular journals where you couldn't get the cam all the way in without a 4 lb lump hammer. That's why I always stress relieve overheated heads rather than just mill a huge chunk off them. It's pretty close to magical when they come out of the oven straight as a die again. It's also an invaluable technique for race heads that have already been skimmed to their class limit combustion chamber volume like in the XR2 Challenge where chambers couldn't be below 53.3 cc.I bow to your most superior knowledge.
Surprisingly cams do survive going into bent heads but you can't imagine it's an ideal situation. I look forward to the OP reporting back if he tries it anyway.

Do I need a flat surface for it to sit on?
Upside down perhaps (there's dowels in the top though)?
Turn it over half way through maybe? (that's a joke)

If you do reply I won't see it for a few days as my computer is shortly being disconnected
Have a good day
Although in a similarly remote job many years ago (the Navy) we did used to play volleyball on the ship's helicopter deck.
Unfortunately/fortunately all of the answers to your other questions are a no!

My first Mrs did her psychology degree at Pompey and then worked for a while on the Tigerfish at Marconi, said the Navy lads drank like fishes but some of the Marconi lads came a very close second!
I used to work for Marconi on spearfish (north Wembley and croxley)Once had a Christmas meal with a bunch of submariners in Dorney, was very very messy - was still pissed the following day when I drove my hire car back to inverness and then threw up on the plane and got a round of applause
