0.3? Yes I just split the difference, sorry.
You're probably not far off with your random guess. I'll write a technical article on it if I can muster the enthusiasm. In the meantime I suggest you lay the cams in their journals and see how much they rock. Push one end down and use feeler gauges to measure the gap at the other end. Then do the oven trick and see what happens and let us know.

Mignon do heads only warp one way, (centre up and ends down)? what if it bends the other way (centre down and ends up) then the cam(s) wouldn`t rock, shirley.

I bow to your most superior knowledge.

Yes they only warp one way IME. The gasket face is always concave and the top side convex. I've seen cams that rocked like barstewards in OHC heads and with the CVH where the cam fits inside the head into circular journals where you couldn't get the cam all the way in without a 4 lb lump hammer. That's why I always stress relieve overheated heads rather than just mill a huge chunk off them. It's pretty close to magical when they come out of the oven straight as a die again. It's also an invaluable technique for race heads that have already been skimmed to their class limit combustion chamber volume like in the XR2 Challenge where chambers couldn't be below 53.3 cc.

Surprisingly cams do survive going into bent heads but you can't imagine it's an ideal situation. I look forward to the OP reporting back if he tries it anyway.

Thanks, I'd already decided I was going to measure it (this time!) but I hadn't thought of using the cams.

A valve spring compressor has been sorted so might happen this weekend. If it'll fit in my oven that is - there's a small pivot rod for one of the timing chain sliders that protrudes 15mm on one side that may spoil the party - I've tugged at it a bit but seems pretty solid. Might go in at an angle but I need to test that.

Any instructions for how to sit it in the oven?

Do I need a flat surface for it to sit on?

Upside down perhaps (there's dowels in the top though)?

Turn it over half way through maybe? (that's a joke)

oh by the way - a correction. I picked up the head from the machine shop yesterday and the amount taken off in the skim was 28 thou, not 24 as I previously stated.

Very true, it's also not as easy as one would think to communicate with strangers without eye contact

Up at 5:40, first coffee by06:00, work by 06:15 the perks of working offshore is a VERY short commute of around 82 ft......
I have never considered the benefits of your job location, no traffic, no fuel bills and no road rage......
Are you supplied with sun loungers and umbrellas, does the company ever put on parties with free beer and scantily clad male and female dancers, do you have kart racing...one mistake and your literally deep in it?

If you do reply I won't see it for a few days as my computer is shortly being disconnected

Have a good day
You missed laundry done by the laundry fairies, meals cooked by the cooking fairies, travel to work costs paid and hire car provided for your once a fortnight one way commute, overalls etc provided.

Although in a similarly remote job many years ago (the Navy) we did used to play volleyball on the ship's helicopter deck.

Unfortunately/fortunately all of the answers to your other questions are a no!
Horrible job.....men stuck with men all day and night. I had many good times with Navy men and women in the past....they were all nutters and could drink and drink and drink and drink more, the last I saw of them they were heading off for Brazil and planning the production of a blue movie, we used to sing along to George Thorogood - Haircut....."Those were the days"

My first Mrs did her psychology degree at Pompey and then worked for a while on the Tigerfish at Marconi, said the Navy lads drank like fishes but some of the Marconi lads came a very close second!

That is mainly also the Navy influence as many Marconi workers are ex maintainers from the systems in the Navy, nearly did that myself.

I used to work for Marconi on spearfish (north Wembley and croxley)

Once had a Christmas meal with a bunch of submariners in Dorney, was very very messy - was still pissed the following day when I drove my hire car back to inverness and then threw up on the plane and got a round of applause
