Hi

I have a Rover P5b with what appears to be a Rover SD1 Lucas 35DE8 distributor. I am looking for a part number, or somewhere that sells would be even better, a condenser that is bolted to the outside of the distributor. Hopefully I have attached a photograph of the condenser that I need.

Any help would be much appreciated !

Thanks
Mark

Thank you Penelope Stopit for your reply and the links...

I am pretty useless when it comes to electrics on vehicles (!) so a stupid question if that is okay (?!), if my Lucas distributor is not listed in the links, can I use one of the condensers that they list....essentially, as long as I can bolt it to the side of the distributor, can I use any condenser ?

Thanks again
Mark

The 35de8 SD1 distributor is electronic isn't it?

I'm sure that condenser must be off an earlier distributor.

You're welcome

The condenser is connected between earth and the distributor ignition module positive supply

and see this from here http://35de8ignitionrepair.eu5.net/

This tells us that it is being used to suppress ignition noise through the radio rather than help run the ignition system

2.2uF is the condenser value for noise suppression

That is absolutely brilliant detective work Penelope Stopit ! It is exactly the same distributor with exactly the same plug end cap on the condenser/suppressor...

And it now tells me that my ignition problem is with the coil (purchased a replacement uprated coil today) and not with the "radio suppressor".

I will gently put the suppressor back on and install the new coil when it arrives and fingers crossed !!

Thank you again for your help...brilliant !
