Best diesel system cleaner?
Discussion
Hi all, wondering what people's experiences are with diesel cleaners? I am picking up a 2002 Mercedes s class with 220k miles on it. Yes I know its stupid but it's stupid cheap with 12 months MOT. One thing the owner said is it has the occasional misfire, now I thought the easiest thing to do would be to give the diesel system a clean as I suspect its been run on cheap fuel and it'll of started to sludge up somewhat and the spray pattern of the injectors won't be what they once were. He reports back decent MPG figures 40+ on a run so I think it's got some life left in it. Wondering what people recommend, I've seen wynns xtreme system cleaner, I've seen a mannol diesel ester fuel additive etc and wondering which would be best? A mixture of both or don't mix. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
wynns are a pretty established brand. but doubt that anything you would put in the tank would be detrimental, so, have at it. i bulk bought a load of rac diesel cleaners that i occasionally run through the engine - cant say i've noticed much difference...
it'll probably do you just as well to give it a decent run out and get the engine nice and hot, so it can burn off any nasties itself. when was the oil last changed?

I used to run a few diesels on veg or a mix
I found mineral ATF(automatic transmission fluid) either fill the new fuel filter with it or add some to the tank, never took anything apart to check but it felt better or I've used this stuff on a motorbike, I know it was petrol but have a look

I tried some of the Wynn's stuff and it made a slight improvement... What really helped was taking it on a track evening and getting it hot! It's a Mini Cooper SD and the girlfriend normally uses it for short journeys and she even commented how much quicker it felt afterwards! Good fun too

I've ordered 500ml of it which should be good for a few tanks and only £11. Can't do any harm as you said and as it's on 220k miles I suspect it'll do it some genuine goodhttps://www.hydra-int.com/maximus-diesel-power-boo...

Always stick to using Forte stuff myself, diesel treatment alone or a pack like this would be my choice in your case... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183175080547
I just put that pack into a Touareg I picked up, think it's been run short journeys on cheep fuel - seems the turbo actuator is a bit stiff, so trying this before going deeper with stripping/cleaning/reconditioning
