Rear wheel drive Ford Duratec V6
Discussion
Im considering fitting a Ford Mondeo Duratec V6 into a rear drive car. The conversion for the 4 cyl duratec and zetec engine is fairly straight forward, but no I have spoken to so far has any experience of the V6. Anyone out there know what the gear box/ starter motor and clutch options are!! Tegs
Hmm. I thought about doing this with my XR4x4 a while ago, but someone mentioned that the Duratec V6 rotates the wrong way. I really must get around to looking under the bonnet of my dad's car and finding out! It may be that the person who said it was confusing the Duratec with the Mazda 2.5 V6 used in the Probe etc.

The V6 Duratec is a mazda derived lump and will not fit direct to a MT box.It might fit the same bellhousing as the 2 ltr Duratec, which are made for Raceline to fit the type9 box.Best to speak to them.
Thanks for the lead Justin I will email Raceline and ask. I guess the other open question is if there is mazda RWD box that will do the job and be a lot cheaper.

No idea on the bolts patterns but if it can be confirmed that the bolt pattern for the MT75 is the same as the MTX75 used on the v6 then you're laughing... probably.
Have you considered the cosworth version of the 2.9 cologne? No such issues with gearboxes on that. The V6 in the mondeo is a very good engine but you'd need to control the variable inlet valves and there are no (or very few) serviceable parts for the duratec which makes rebuilding one very difficult.

I did consider the Cossie V6 but the cast iron block adds a bit too much weight for my liking.
I guess me best bet would be to go down my local scrappy and see if they will let me do pick and mix (duratecs are two a penny at the moment).

Morgan use the Duratec V6 in their traditional roadster.
Their installation was engineered in association with Power Torque Engineering who supply Morgan with engine/gearbox assemblies ready to drop straight in so all the necessary parts will be available from Power Torque. You can read about them and see one of their rear drive Duratec engine/box assemblies here: www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=52&i=9903

Oddly that link to Power Torque Engineering mentions that Morgan had wanted a special bellhousing in order to mate the Duratec v6 to a Jag gearbox. Mind you that was all marketing fluff so maybe it's wrong anyway
Gulp I just noticed this thread is over 10yrs old!
