Had a bit of clutch trouble with my Zetec engined Lotus Elan today and came across this site, so I thought I'd see if anyone can help.

The car has an MT75 gearbox fitted to a 2L Zetec with a cable operated clutch. The car has done about 5000 miles since I finished it last year (re-furbed gearbox, all new clutch bits). I've had a slight noise when depressing the clutch for about a week, which sounded like the release bearing, and today the clutch pedal felt intermittantly stiff in operation. This afternoon I lost the clutch altogether. The cable had snapped about 2" from the pedal attachment but the operating arm on the gearbox had a fair bit of up and down movement as well as the normal forwards and back.

The RAC got me back on the road with a temporary cable, but I'm a bit concerned about the movement in the release arm - I'm sure it didn't wobble about like that when I fitted it!

Feels as though there's a problem with the release arm pivot - Has anyone else come across this before?

The MT75 box is one of the most common gearboxes fitted to Fords. I have had to fit many clutches on Transits with the same box. I have mostly always found this movement. The cable probably snapped due to fraying. You are probably reading too far into the problem mate. Happy

That's good news as I didn't fancy pulling the engine out again!

I've ordered another cable so hopefully it'll be OK

Cheers
