Hi. I have an ally dry sump pan that has been ground away over time, then subsequently 'filled' by ally welding. Other than using services like Ultraseal, is there a porosity sealant anyone is aware of which would do the same job? I have been told there is an ultra low viscocity product available that is DIY-able. Anyone know if loctite or permabond produce such a product? Or any other similar products for that matter?

I don't want to weld again. I'm also looking for a suitable material to use to bond a thin nylon skid plate to the base of the sump, or even glue a piece of ally on. I've been told that welding a piece on will upset the porosity sealant. Oil runs up to about 90 degrees C, but I gues welding may produce local hotspots far hotter?

I holed the sump on my westfield a couple of times.I used a chemical metal to temporary repair the hole until I took the sump off.It worked well, but I did always wonder about it when driving the car.You will need to degrease the area and then put it on.Mine was only a small graze from a piece of flint I hit.I then took the engine out and had it welded up and had an alloy skid plate welded to it and never had a problem again

thanks for the reply. The sump is intact at the moment, and doesn't leak, but rather, weeps. If I don't solve the porosity issue, any plating will not get rid of the problem!

By far teh best stuff I'vwe come across fo all sorts of sealing is JB weld I've used it to repair radiators, leaking cylinder blocks and heads etc etc
It takes the heat and won't react with the oil Halfords , homebase etc all sell it
