Just wondered if there is an expert out there who might be able to help. My BMW 535 has developed a spasmodic fault. It starts OK but then for a few minutes does not respond to throttle pedal pressure. Then there is a relay-like "clunk" and all is well--till next time. Idles very erratically when not responding. Sometimes happens when driving and progress becomes very jerky. Have checked all the obvious--idling bypass etc but no broken hoses or bad connections. Any ideas anybody?

How old is the car? Not sure when, but at some time BMW went fly-by-wire. I dred to think how many possible causes it could be on this style of throttle mec's.

It may end up with the inevitable visit to your local dealer. I would try an independant specialist first though.

Good luck

Paul.

You could either ask a specailist to stick there fault code reader in the diagnostic port or buy the device and do it yourself. The code reader will give an indication as to which sensor is at fault.. ie,
Code43 = Throttle position switch fubar'd
