Combined Super / turbocharging?
Discussion
Ive never personally used efi on a mini. What exactly are the problems with it ?? Why doesnt it work ??
It took me a long time go get my SU to work satisfactorily and is substantially modified.
Any of the forms of anti-lag mentioned will result in a much shortened turbo life. Causing a burn of any sort in the exhaust manifold, wether by retared ign events, or by injectiong air/fuel into the manifold will cause temps to rise alarmingly. Both manifold and turbo will suffer.
Garret do a good range of turbos, I would have thought that they would offer something quite suitable. Yes they are expensive though for a BB turbo.
After all, there are quite a few turbo'd bike engines around these days. If they can get a turbo to suit, why cant anyone ??
Im using a Garret T3 hybrid on mine. IIRC it has a T3 shaft, with a 0.36 ex housing, and a 2wd cossie compressor. Dont know trims or compressor part nos.
As I said, it is very torquey even off boost, and has 1.5 bar by 3500rpm, and pulls happily to 7500rpm in every gear.
It does take a little longer in 4th, but 7000rpm's is easy in top, in under a mile from standing start.
3.1:1 diff on 13's

re- your site/mini
Why dont you like NGK's ?? personally, Id never use Champion. Ive always found them to be cheap crap.
I only use NGK or Denso
Good quarter time. Best I managed was 14.5 @ 101 ( still 3rd gear ) back in 1994 at Santa Pod..
That was with a full weight car+ luggage on Goodyear NCT 2's 165/60x13.
It could go a lot better, but traction was a problem. Was spinning the wheels upto the 1/8th mile lol

I use the T2 as my mini is soley a road car, I don't like the sluggish response of the T3, so would rather not go that route...
Incidentally that 1/4 was with the car as seen in the pics - no perspex or lightening of any kind - just a road going mini with no LSD, full soundproofing and my tools in the boot (it's a long walk back from the top of the strip!!!)
NGK's - Grrrr!
I wrote a post on another site about them, i'll find the link and post it.
as regards EFI, Thsi site explains it all in very good detail. Marcel and myself did a lot of work on the background, but he continued on and came up with the actual test results that backed up the theory...
