BMW M30 engine oil leak

I have aquired a classic with this engine. Problem is that it has the well known slight oil leak from the front of the block. I notice that it does not start until the engine has been ging for about 5 minutes and is continuous rather than "weepy" suggesting something pressure related. Has anybody had this problem and dealt with it--I am told that it's not uncommon. If so I would be most grateful for advice.
