Latest Noble engine

Noble have announced that after the motor show they will start selling a track-biased M12 with about 430bhp. Any experts out there think this is pushing the Duratech too far?

Not really. Depends on the spec of the internals, although the current setup isn't exactly weak. The existing engines run fairly low boost and the potential to increase performance is already well documented (the 360 - 400bhp lumps built in the states for 1G). 150bhp/litre is certainly achievable with acceptable reliability.

Assuming they are increasing the power by increasing the boost will the clutch/gearbox/driveshafts be able to handle the extra torque ?

Driveshafts won't be a problem, clutch plate will be fine but I'd expect a stronger pressure plate in there.

Gearbox has no doubt been tested by giving the development car some beans for considerable miles and AFAIK thats not broke.

If the power is being developed where I think it is, i.e. further up the rev range, then the stress increase/torque loading on drive/transmission components is reduced. I'd expect the new engine to run a higher rev limit than the current 3litre to provide some headroom for this. Don't forget with some more RPM's available is possible to increase power without increasing boost pressure, providing of course that their is sufficent flow capacity available through the induction system.

Back in October the M400 test mule had done 15k miles with Lee driving and by the way he was telling me at Rockingham they were'nt easy miles.

How interesting, given the engine used by Aston Martin is twice the 3.0L engine and that Noble one is producing similar horsepower....

Aston Martin V12 does seem to be lacking the pair of beefy trim T25's that hang of each exhaust manifold of the Noble's lump though..........

Well my 2.0L 4pot cossie is running similar power..... and has been doing so for over 8years now.

if its done right it should be OK, just expect shorter oil/plug change periods etc.
