All,

Any idea where I can get hold of a standard tin crossflow rocker cover in decent nick? My alloy cover has never sealed properly so I'm planning on tarting up an original one.

A little confused here.

You want a normal steel rocker cover for the OHV engine to replace an alloy one?

We never used an alloy cover on the kent/valencia/hcs/endura engine series.

Is this a special cover your thinking of replacing?

Yep, that's about right! I had the engine rebuilt a couple of years ago and threw away the original "tin" rocker cover, replacing it with a nice shiny alloy one to set off the engine bay. Unfortunately, this aftermarket cover has never sealed properly, so I'm now trying to find a non-knackered original-spec cover, which I know will seal, and tart it up with some paint to match the bodywork.

Any thoughts?

If you want, i'll call a friend tomorrow, who may just have a spare one from an OLD kent series engine.

He used to build engines for MK1 and 2 essies.
I know he still has rucks of bits knocking about

Failing that, i'll see how much a new item will cost.
would you prefer the old type domed effect or the newer flat design?

I suspect you've got a BURTON POWER alloy cover fitted to your engine, they charge about 55+ vat for those, might be worth putting it against a straight edge and just flatting it off.

Did you fit a felt type gasket or the cork one? The cork is for the tin rocker and felt for the alloy.I've never had leak probs if the right gasket has been fitted.

Hi Justin,

If memory serves, I got a paper gasket (specified as being suitable for alloy covers) from Burtons when I got the cover. It leaked, so I went back to a cork gasket. Better, but still leaky. Where did you get a felt one from? Hadn't heard about those.....

Kris..

ps. Nighthawk - going to see a man about a cover locally tomorrow... if he doesn't turn up trumps you may have mail! Thanks for the offer

apologies, meant paper. You could make one up out of thicker paper.Glue with silicon sealant onto the face of the rocker cover.Allow to heal. Then bolt it up.Make sure there are no indentations on the head seating face,as they can get dented or scored .
