As an Alfa Giulia Veloce (280hp) owner how does the Maser stack up in terms of a daily driver? I have two boys 7&9 and need some space. I love the Giulia, great chassis and handling but do miss the noise of my GT 3.2 V6. Looking at £30k budget max.

The Ghibli was built as a daily driver. I was chatting to the guys at Dick Lovett and they have cars with 100k on them with no major issues. The brakes are expensive and need changing more frequently than a bmw/merc equivalent.
I like the Alfa and not sure it will give you much more (apart from the engine!) but if you have the itch, scratch it! You won’t regret it.

Thanks guys. Yes I think the Veloce is a great car. The Ghibli is quite heavy with lots of power versus the Veloce which is light and quick enough. Just minus the noise. I might loook at exhaust options for the time being to give me a bit more feedback and look at Ghiblis next. Is there a planned revised Ghibli planned at some point? If so the current ones with end of run may be worth considering
I asked a similar question on an Alfa Romeo group where three people had gone from Ghibli to Giulia.
All said the Alfa was miles ahead dynamically but the Ghibli was otherwise a decent, hassle free prospect.
I believe the later Ghibli is much improved in terms of steering and handling than the early cars.

I was comparing costs, £22k used diesel vs £22k used diesel.
I thought the total cost of ownership would be very similar, long term. The Alfa is cheaper to run for sure but ultimately will be worth nothing whereas the Maserati will always be worth something!
The Maserati brakes looked expensive though Eurospares now offer competitively priced alternatives.

Can’t comment on the Alfa, but I do a fair bit of miles in my Petrol Ghibli and have found it very practical as a daily driver. Tons of room in the back, huge boot (swallowed 3 massive suitcases for a holiday with the boys), comfortable to drive for hours (did 6 hours on one trip, with a break of course), and no real problems. Even fuel economy is ok given what it is (26mpg average).
Only complaint so far is turning circle, noticeable on small road T-junctions and car parks. It’s quite large on the outside (length and width) high doesn’t help, but that is to be expected given the size of the inside (Maserati designers are clever, but not that clever).

I have a 2014 V6 410hp S. I bought it in 2017 after pondering a new Giulia Veloce.
It's like comparing a new 330i M Sport with a previous gen 540i.... The Alfa feels like a compact sports saloon. The Ghibli has less steering feel, but handles well. It's nicely balanced but not as involving as, say, a Jag XF. It's roomier than the Alfa but not as much as you'd think considering its bulk.
But, it has a roaring V6, soul and a lovely interior.
On a motorway run on cruise control at 70mph, I get 36-38mpg. Great for a 410hp car. Then I accelerate, and it drops to 10mpg
Day to day its a 25-28 mpg car.
Servicing is fairly straightforward. A good independent Alfa (or Jeep) specialist should have all the software required. The main dealers are extortionate for servicing.
Brake pads are really easy to change at home, so don't get sucked into main dealer prices.
I've gone from 32,000 miles to 55,000 miles and have had no issues. The Diesels are depreciating quickly, but the Petrols seem to be only losing a couple of grand a year after 3 years old. Well, that's what I told myself to persuade myself it was cheaper than a new Alfa

I used my Ghibli S for 3 years as a daily. I did just short of 60k miles in that time and averaged a little over 23 mpg.
I've now swapped it for a Levante S as I didn't want to drop power down to the 350
Its a different drive being an SUV but, if anything, sounds better than the Ghibli and still gives that feeling when I close the door and start the engine.
