Hello

I am looking at a Quattroporte with 4.2 engine with low mileage and a 4.7 with average milage. What are the differences with engines and reliability?

How can you tell if a Quattroporte has semi auto or ZF auto gearbox?

My knowledge is on the Granturismo but I believe it applies
Both engines can suffer from variator issue
Look online to see the engine number it was fixed from. Think from 2011 on it was sorted but you need to check the engine number.
Look for a car that has had it sorted if it’s in the range that suffers. Not just new variators but cam covers machined with check valves to stop the issue recurring.
Ideally just buy a car that has an engine number after the fix
The front suspension bushings are ridiculously expensive and will need doing on these older cars. Budget £2.5kish
Brakes are expensive, about £2k all round.

So the 4.7 car is stronger all round than the 4.2 as a lot of issues were addressed in the facelift.

Variators are in issue on engine numbers before 148697

Semi auto has buttons, and the ZF has a gearknob.
Also check for corrosion around the subframes.
If you can find a good one they're amazing value.

That's interesting, what sort of thing?
Did that apply to the GT as well out of interest, I wasn't aware of many changes
