You might have more luck if it was wrapped in carbon!

With the amount of luggage that Mrs Slippery is trying to take on holiday in a couple of weeks time, I might be asking if you'll hire me your aero kit! hehe

I know what you mean. With 3 teenage girls and a wife packing for 2 weeks away, I was considering a trailer or a support van!

I was just going to ask how you managed to fill the boot and need more luggage space. 4 women in the household is more than enough reason. hehe

What how did you find a roof rack? I need to get some ladders from parent to home.

I have a 10 month old son and my wife still managed to fill the boot, the rear seats and the foot wells just for a week away in Dorset! Poor Adam, you could hardly see him for all the crap!

I got mine from the states, the official Pontiac one, it's slightly different to the OP's.

If you or damian1 are anywhere near West Yorkshire you're welcome to borrow it.

Is this a Halfrauds job, or is it somewhat more complicated? These bags are not going to fit and we're away next Friday! driving

It was more complicated than that. Whatever you do, you need a car specific mounting kit - which isnt particularly common for a Commodore VE.

Initially I went with a Thule setup which clamped around the door frames but I wasnt happy that it felt secure enough to not move around once travelling. The kit for that took a week or so to come from Germany. I no longer need it so if interested.........

I then looked a bit further and ended up with a Rhino Rack kit from Aus - this mounts onto the fixed points on the roof and is far, far more solid and secure. Again, this had to be imported and I dont that will happen for next week.

I got my kit via the UK distributor for Rhino Rack who are Taubenreuther on 01832 275396 and spoke to a hugely helpful chap called Andrew who organised it for me. You need a RLCP18 mounting kit and a set of bars.

I was afraid you were going to give me an answer like that! I'll give hime a call and see if there's anything he can do. Thanks for the info.

Spoke to him. As you say, very helpful and might be able to meet my deadline if I move quickly. Is the roof box itself a standard thing to get hold of? He told me I would just need to make sure that whatever box I got could be attached to aero style roof bars. Sorry for all the questions, but I know nothing about this subject and besides, it's doing wonders for your post count! hehe

Always a silver lining.

The box is a standard Halfords jobbie. In fact it's a Thule box with their quick mount system that seems to fit fine. The Rhino aero bars are quite wide so just need to check that the mounts are wide enough to fit. Presumably they will be on the car when you go to fetch the box? So just check then.

The fact that he can do something for you for next week implies that he was a bit cunning and brought more than one kit over?

No, he just said that the courier cost would be about £80 and that it should be about a week. Cutting it a bit fine really, I will need to get some pretty solid assurance from him re the timing before I order anything, because if it doesn't arrive in time, it might as well not arrive at all! I think we were talking about just shy of £280 all in, sounds like a lot for a non tasty mod, but needs must I suppose! smile
