I got mine from Andy, I was initially told that the patch lead would be free, just pay for the postage, but I was charged £30 in the end ?

Never mind, at least the problem seems to be cured.
Which side did you have the issue with and how/where did you fit your two patch looms?

Cheers

I had problems with my left hand side. I was given two leads, so I fitted one to both LH and RH light units. The leads have male/female connectors and you insert it in between the existing connection. You can fit both leads in less than 10 minutes.

You don't get fitting instructions, but when you are in the boot looking at the lamp connections, it will make sense.

whatever side it is, fast flash will be on all 3 indicators per side ie front + rear lamps and side repeater. but the fault is only caused by rear lamp unit (LED) and that's the one that needs the loom
That clears it up, cheers.

I have the fault on the driver's side and have the patch leads, as others have said I received 2xlooms and presumed as they appeared identical that one would be for the front and the other the rear...
both go on rear.

Placed a patch lead on each rear light and no change still, the fast flash on the offside persists. Unless the patch leads that I have aren't up to scratch...

have you fitted them between the main wiring harness and the rear light module ie before the rear light unit

ie on the NS its approx above the battery

Pretty sure I have fitted them correctly as the male/female pins were a perfect match for each end of the patch loom.

Did the same for both sides.

So now the patches are inbetween the harness that comes from the rear of the light unit itself and the blue HSV module/unit? I presume this is correct as it was a perfect fit on both ends and the indicators still work but the offside has remained faulty.

Topic revival, I'm having this issue now but I'm wondering if this is down to a small strip of LEDs being out on the drivers side rear indicator. I have the harness mod fitted (magicgreg's old car) also.

Has anyone taken the cluster apart and if so is it a DIY job or am I looking at taking it somewhere? Pretty handy with a soldering iron and meter.

Thanks.

Did mine just before christmas
it takes time cos once the lights out the top of the cluster is held with 4 screws and a ton of mastic
tried using a heat gun but it was going to take ages so got the dremel out
cut round the top to get at the circuit board
fixed a coupleof dry joints and a split in the track
put the top back on with plenty of mastic
took about 4 hrs start to finish
a few hours but saves a lot of money

It will almost certainly be caused by the strip of LEDs being out. I had this issue periodically on mine and I could always see one strip of LEDs not as bright as the rest, resoldering or replacing them always fixed the issue. In the end I got sick of it and the 3rd time I had the light unit out I replaced all the LEDs and not had a problem since. I used the LEDs off this page http://www.rapidonline.com/electronic-components/k... code 55-1530. As previously indicated getting the top off the light unit is a total pain but its well worth the £800 saving or whatever they are selling light units for these days.

I'm going to strip the cluster this weekend all being well. Can anyone recommend the correct sealant used when re-sealing the lens?

I'm not sure its recommended but when I first did mine I just screwed the back on (it has 4 or 6 screws I think from memory) and then ran a bit of black silicone sealant around the join. The second time it happened I couldn't be arsed and I just screwed it back on the seal is pretty decent anyway.

I can't find any specific mastic mentioned anywhere so will just see what the local Halfruads has.

If you are going to go to the effort of stripping it down an resealing it then if you are confident with the soldering iron i'd seriously consider replacing all the LEDs or you may find yourself taking it all back apart again in a few months when it happens again.

Yeah it needs to be done as the MOT is at the end of the month. Will order a set of replacement LEDs also then.

LEDs ordered.

Just double checked how many I would need and it turns out 6 are out on the passengers side and 3 on the drivers, but like you said worth replacing them all for piece of mind.

You can check each LED to see they are ok before you replace them, they are in series so i found one cracked joint took out six LED's
You will very unlucky if you have six broken LED's or six cracked joints

Sorry to drag up an old post but does anyone know a current source of supply for the patch leads. Picadors can no longer supply whilst Walkinshaw don' t seem to know anything about them - only offering the light unit itself or the LED control module on the rear of the light unit. Thanks

Going through the same thing myself.. Haven't found a source yet.

I've got the wiring/resistor info required, I think - just need to confirm it all, and may try going to the local autosparky to see if they'll kindly build me a couple.
