Quick question, but really wanted to take the boy out (8 months old - taken this long to persuade the wife to let me) last weekend, put our spare baby seat in the back of the Monaro (as it's smaller than our main seat we have permanently ISOfixed in our main car), and the seat belts don't go round it! I'm assuming there is no ISOfix in the Monaro?
So, on account of that - what seats to other people use that fit? Or do I need to buy a seat belt extension or something? (Not sure the wife would be happy with that!). confused

Yeap, I got a seatbelt extender thing from the bay... and use our maxi-cosy baby seat as I think most of the safety comes from the structure of the seat.... not necessarily how it's fixed to the car.

What kind of accident would you have to be in for a seatbelt extender to be an issue?!

Hoping you would answer as i know your car is same as mine and only marginally younger baby! Think our small seat is a Maxi-Cosy too.
I know what you mean, but you know what these women are like - law un-to themselves mostly! I'll look for an extender and see how it goes - couldn't believe it, got car out, took seat out of the Legacy, then tried to fit it in and was not having it!! Was gutted! I know secretly the little man is desperate for a drive out in the Ro, he just doesn't know how to communicate that yet.....................................

PS. the alternative is to get an belted base for the baby seat (assuming that you have a maxi-cosy type seat)... They use much less seatbelt and then you just click the seat into the base.

The monaro has ISOFIX and top tether anchorages, you should be able to use your existing ISOFIX CRS. This would be much better than getting a belt extender! Just stick you fingers between the seat base and seat back and you should find them. The top tether anchorage is behind the head restraint.

Think that's a VZ thing, and they have VYs.

Just found this old thread which may help

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

It seems that not all Ros have ISOFIX, but try to avoid the need for a belt extender if you can.

Thanks for that - had a read through. Pretty sure mine doesn't have it but will double check. Mine is the 04 CV8 big boot rather than facelift CV8 or VXR. Some of those seats mentioned have probably now been superseded too.

I've pretty well decided on keeping the Monaro now, so I might pick up an EasyBase 2 (a non-isofix option) to use with our maxi-cosy seat, so I'll let you know how I get on and how it compares to just using the extender.

Got a big trip down to South of France coming up so want to make sure that baby Janosh is nice and safe when 'making progress' through France smile

Yep been taking my little one out in Monaro for13 months now ,best with isofix base currently on her silver cross 3D range from birth but switching over to the maxi cosi. Pearl which also has isofix on more expensive but easier to change and fit between cars and tried so. many in mine

Seatbelts std aren't long enough and some extenders then give too much slack

I used maxi cosi rear facing when lad was little with the easy base system (has a base unit and a bar down to floor)
Then I went for the recaro young sport, great seat and really well made. Fits in the back of the monaros and its been my main car since the lad was born over 4 years ago. The seats grows with them.

I think you might be able to install the Easybase 2 without the need to extend the belt. This is because the belt only restrains the base and doesn't need to pass around the baby carrier. I'm pretty sure a belt extender really won't be compatible with the Easybase 2.

That's the plan - I'm collecting an easybase 2 over the weekend so will report back on how it fits

Thread resurrection!

I don't actually own one yet, but baby seats is a potential issue I need to address. So it seems Isofix is hit and miss, but then there's the option for the dealt in bases, so that's covered, but what about larger seats? My 3rd old is currently in a Recaro young sport, how does something of this size fit? Or it a case of only certain larger seats will fit? I've noticed the seats in the back are quite bucketed

I've now changed to a Monaro VXR over the CV8 I had when I started this thread. My little'n is now 2 years old and his current seat does not fit in the back of my Monaro, it sits on the seat bolsters rather than in between them and although it straps in, it does not feel at all secure with lots of moment.
I think Mark (007) used a Recaro Young Sport in his and said it fits well and swears by it, though I think that has now been superseded by the Young Sport Hero which I am looking at to see if it fits as that will cover my lad up to 12 years. If you know where to look, there are still new Recaro Sports for sale online though. To be sure, I will take it to Mothercare of somewhere and actually get them to try and fit the Young Sport Hero before taking the plunge.
The other consideration is actually getting the car seat into the back - the front seats do move and fold forwards, but not to a huge degree, and without risking shredding the headlining or damaging the seats, some of the larger car seats will probably not even be able to squeeze into the back.
I'm sure (hopefully) some of the others will come along to share their experiences soon, as I've certainly bumped into a couple of people at meets with car seats in the back, so it would be interesting to see what they currently use.
At the moment though, my boy, despite showing an early interest in cars (result), has yet to have a ride out in the car.

You are quite lucky that you haven't bought a Ro yet. My advice would be to get a later one WITH ISOFIX in the rear, the VXRs do have it but you can easily check when buying. Just look behind the hear restraint for the top tether and at the bottom of the seat for the ISOFIX.

Getting one with ISOFIX will save all of the faffing around with belt extenders and compatibility between the child seat and vehicle seat. The connection between the child seat and vehicle is paramount to safety in a crash! Even today, over 70% of child seats are fitted incorrectly with the adult seatbelt and this was the case 15 years ago. That's why they invented ISOFIX.

You can fit the Maxi Cosi Familyfix base and 2way fix bases in the back of a Ro. You can also fit a Cabriofix (rearward facing) and Pearl (forward facing) CRS on the familyfix base in the back of a Ro.

One other thing, keep you child rearwards facing as long as possible! Difficult, yes, but safer.

So really I need a late model one for the isofix and children's safety, but an early big boot one to actually fit all their crap in the back.

Nothing's ever simple is it
