Car hit. Other driver drove off - got his reg number
Discussion
Sadly today someone bumped my car when I stopped for red light.
I got out of car and tried to get their details - and they decided to drive off.
I followd them keeping safe distance. Finally they stopped as they were blocked by another trafic so I stopped about half a lengh of car behind them.
They then proceed to reverse and hit my car. At this point in time I realised its safer to not to follow them.
I managed to capture their reg no. Checked MIB and car is surprise surprise not insured and not taxed, but has MOT till may next year.
Chances of car/driver being traced by Police are slim and I am on TP policy.
If I decide to fix damage myself - how would I report this to insurance company (as I assume I still have to report this)

I would still call 101 and report the car reg; hitting someone and driving off is one thing, but to purposefully reverse and hit you again shows intent. I would bet you're not the first he's hit, so maybe the police already know about him. I guess you don't have much options RE repairs if your policy is TP only. good luck.
ETA if you're going to fix your car yourself, I wouldn't mention to your insurance now/in the future and you technically aren't making a claim.

Do what he says as soon as possibleBOF
Hi,
yes - Police was notified shortly after above happen (before I posted here that is).
I took pictures of damage and well - mended front bumper for now so I can continue to drive.
Its more to do how do I report this to insurer.
Way things go I wont make claim on own policy.
So is it incident notification or non fault non claim accident?
or DO I HAVE TO REPORT IT?

Have a look at the MIB site regarding claiming. https://www.mib.org.uk/making-a-claim/claiming-aga...

Post up the reg, colour, make of vehicle and general location - If someone else google searches for the car next time he does it, it will add to this 'history' and hopefully stand more chance of identifying the asshat

Ok - went ot Police station to repor this and have reference number. Afterwards was informed that someone will ring me tomorrow as case is more serious than simple hit and run.
But lets focus on my initial questions:
1) Do I need to report this to insurance (Yes/No)
2) If Q1 answer is Yes how should I report this if I am going to fix car myself

Really doesn't matter. Call it what you like. They will work it out.
Be prepared for the fact your insurers may deal with as two incidents as technically you've had two separate accidents with the same car.
I guess you might reason that the second incident wasn't an accident.Be prepared for the fact your insurers may deal with as two incidents as technically you've had two separate accidents with the same car.
Ok.
Reported as notification only. Described whole situation and was informed it is single notification.
Yes - I will take a hit during renewal, especially as I had 3 claims in last 5 years (1 now classified as fraudlent PI, one more hit&run where I claimed through own policy and one at fault).
Been to garage and they confirmed no structural/hidden damage.
We even managed to get bumper back on car and its holding ok as provisional repair.
Time to look on ebay for new bumper

I did a free MID search and it notes the Focus is insured. If your insurer has delegated authority they should be able to utilise MID to find out who the insurer of that vehicle is. Once the third party insurer is notified, they will then send out RTA forms to their client for (alleged) incident.
The common misconception is that though the driver may be uninsured, the last known insurer of that driver may still be liable for your costs.
This is known as being an "RTA insurer" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTA_Insurer of which they may pay your claim and look to reclaim their own costs directly from their client.
You may have to proceed with a claim through the Motor Insurance Bureau for a bit of leverage though.
