Had a NIP through last week for one of my work vehicles for the alleged offence of Failing to Wear a Seatbelt and requirement for drivers details.

Worked it out that it had to be one of two possible drivers and neither of them are sure as to which of them it was, so I replied to the NIP asking for any description and enquired as to why they weren't stopped at the time.

This morning I receive the a reply, along with photos!!!!

Photos from a bloody speed camera van - the sad git sitting in it didn't get them for speeding, so he reported them for no seatbelt Unfrigging-believable

Photos can clearly I.D the driver who has been informed it was him and he is astounded that it is a Speed Camera van that has reported him

Is it about road safety or about the money.........

So I would guess both drives never wear seat belts...

"he is astounded that it is a Speed Camera van that has reported him" - not sorry he lied... just astounded he was caught... what a tool

Neither of them lied - they weren't sure who was driving at the time.

The one who wasn't driving (he was in passenger seat) initially said he thought it could have been him who was driving but wasn't entirely sure

As for the no seatbelt- I've done it and been fined, the missus drives me nuts I have been in the passenger seat of her car and the seatbelt warning is pinging and I've passed comment to put her seatbelt on as the ping ping is annoying. Her reply "I just blank it out" rolleyes

Edited to add: the vehicle they were in doesn't have seatbelt warning chimes , but not an excuse

I find it difficult it believe that a husband and wife wouldn't want to be as safe as possible when driving; what are your objections to wearing seat belts?

I don't have any objection to wearing a seatbelt - I have been fined myself (4-5 years ago) for not wearing it.

My missus ignores the ping ping If she is in the passenger seat of my car and doesn't put her belt on I pull over (I may have tapped the brakes on the odd occasion) wink

How many of your relatives (parents, grandparents, uncles etc) are idiots then?
Or did their former idiocy cease when the seatbelt law came in?

It's a law of minor significance, the NHS patches up people that abuse their bodies with tobacco and alcohol.
If that continues then I've no problem with my taxes paying to patch up someone that doesn't wear a seatbelt.

And the bigger idiots in those groups are not those without seatbelts.

Anyone who chooses not to wear a seatbelt today is a complete idiot.

There may be bigger idiots in society, but choosing not to wear a seatbelt clearly renders you a muppet.

Driving without a seatbelt isn't akin to smoking or drinking, because there's a pleasure to smoking and drinking so it's a risk/reward decision. (not that personally I understand the pleasure in smoking, but I'm sure smokers can describe it)

There is no pleasure to not wearing a seatbelt, it's just indicative of a fk you attitude to risk, and sticking 2 fingers up to the law for the sake of it.

I wouldn't mind betting that the type of moron who doesn't wear a seatbelt is the type of person who will have more accidents also, because their disregard for safety will carry forward into other aspects of their driving.

I'd be very concerned if any of the drivers on our company fleet were caught without a seatbelt. It's in clear contradiction to the drivers' handbook they signed when they took possession of the vehicle, for a start.

The Driver's Handbook?

You'll be telling us you've got cameras in the cabs next.
Speed limiters fitted?

You appear to have missed my point.

Or is this kinda the same as labelling drivers that continue to drive on a road that was a 60, is now a 40 with no legitimacy, as maniacs when they ignore the new limit?

Muppets should have been wearing seat belts to start with. I literally can not understand why some people choose not to. Saying that they're uncomfortable is a load of rubbish too.

Why do you care so much, the only person that might suffer (questionably) is the person not wearing the belt?

I suspect the usual Internet points scoring and "I'm cleverer than you because.... " mentality plays a part in some of the replies.

Mate, have you ever met someone who has needlessly gone through a windscreen head first?

My old boss never wore a seatbelt and used to go on a rant when anyone ever broached the subject, including Police officers.
Mind you, he also thought that he was entitled to use a mobile while driving, always sat in lane 3 tailgating other drivers and generally behaved like an arrogant knob inside and outside of a car.

I've read your post through a number of times and can't see what you intended when making it.
Were you trying to demonstrate how odious you think speed enforcement is or are you showing that you think that reasonable safety precautions, regulated for your benefit are something you don't agree with?
Wearing seat belts are surely a good idea and benefit you and your wife who seems to share your unbelievable logic regarding safety.
I think you simply don't like having your speed monitored and are trying to give speed camera vans a worse reputation than the petrolhead community already attribute to them.
Rather pleasingly your final question reveals your mindset and it is reinforced later on this page when you think it reasonable to 'brake-test' your wife when she leaves her seat belt off.
I could say you come over as a bit of a dick but you have done that yourself. The best thing you can do is tell your wife to belt-up and perhaps do the same yourself while you are at it.

It wouldn't be unusual to consider that the impairment to the body and mind or indeed the death of a family member would cause ones family to suffer in some way.
Perhaps you are aware that your family would not suffer any consequences on the occasion your possible demise.
