Afternoon, could I ask some advice. I am finding the groupset on my bike a little clunky, especially when climbing. Could anybody point me in the right direction for abit of an upgrade to something smoother riding. What sort of groupsets would work on my bike? I cycle 20/30 mile rides, I think the existing is 2x9 set up.

Many thanks in advance

To get the gears smoother would infer more ratios with smaller gaps but that'll mean you may need a new back wheel as your current free wheel won't take the latest 11 or 12 speed cassettes. I would've thought a Deore group set would be pretty slick anyway. Has it had new cables in the last year? If your sure it's all tickety boo then the current 2x11 SLX is a bargain. You'd probably notice a bit of a gain by dumping that heavy square drive front crank. You could do that anyway?

Thanks for the replies. I think I am actually asking the wrong question. I bought the hybrid as I was not sure if it was road or light off road cycling which I would prefer. After a few months it is definetly road cycling and the faster the better. The question should be, how can I make my bike a faster road bike. Budget £750-£1k, But I need to work around the existing frame.....

I would consider a whole new bike for 1k , you can pick up good deals if you look about on the web , should get at least 105 for that budget , and proper drop bars with shifters much nicer to use , worth thinking about .

If you are certain you prefer road biking I would say it is not worth throwing 1000 at that bike, you could put a new groupset and better wheels on it but I would suggest the best option would either be to sell it and put that money on top of your 1000 to get a decent road bike.
Or you could purchase a road bike for £1000 and keep the charge as a winter bike and fix it cheaply with bits from eBay and Facebook cycling groups, possibly more hybrid cyclocross style then you have 2 bikes for two different disciplines.

You could throw a grand at your bike but it would possibly still be nowhere near as good or as quick as this which for the money is an utter bargain and would be what I would spend 1k on

They also have an Ultegra version for 150quid extra.

Thanks for the replies...of course you are right, keeping the Charge for the winter and looking at a new road bike for the summer is the answer...I think I will have a good look around the end of the summer and see what sort of deals there are, thanks again for your responses...
