Hi all, I’ve got a 2004 monaro cv8 with the original exhaust that exits on the left rear. It’s far too quiet so I’m looking to buy a replacement. The only place near me (leicester) is a powerflow agent who have quoted £799 to make up a cstainless cat back system but I’ve read a few bad things about them online ! I’ve tried searching for ready made up exhausts online but hardly any companies come up in this country. Any advice please ? Thanks Shaun

Hi if you read my posts on exhausts this may help I have a vxr 5.7 with the same single exit at the back I went to fast road conversions in ashford Kent they made me 2 400 cell replacement cats and 2 de cat pipes for £360 in vat and removed my rear box and made a new pipe and retained my tail pipes for £200 including vat, I left the decat pipes on so my car sounds like a V8 should nice and rumbley below 2000 revs above this it really does sound like a nascar, but I am going to put the 400 cell cats back on just to tame it down a bit it's just slightly to loud at the moment I went to a funeral last week in it and I did get a little embarrassed

Sorry for your loss but I can't resist...
...Was your exhaust loud enough to wake the dead?

I have an 05 Monaro, so my exhaust is different to yours, but I fitted a Magnaflow cat back many years ago, it sounds good and it is still in top condition today.
I bought it from Nemesis uk, tel 01212882561, it would be worth a call to see if they can still get a system for you.
If you don't mind travelling call AAS in Newcastel, tel 01912673718 and ask for Stuart. They made my headers and sports cats. Believe me they are top quality workers and I am very fussy as to who can go anywhere near my car.
if I could do it all again I would just let AAS loose on my car and have the entire system made by them.
As for Powerflow.....I had some exhaust work carried out on my Omega MV6. The workmanship was poor to be honest. When I complained about the terrible drone at all engine speeds, they told me to go back home and pack the rear back box with wire wool..... Strangely enough I never went back to them again.
All exhaust systems cost a fair bit of cash to say the least. You want a drone free deep burbling sound on a Monaro, so If you are going to keep your car consider paying a bit extra for a quality system.

I’ve never been totally happy with any Powerflow stuff.
On my CV8 I have a Borla with uprated cats and it’s very nice loud when on it, quiet at cruise and quite mellow still, some I hear sound quite harsh.

Thanks for replies, I’ve looked on magnaflow site & they list one for Pontiac GTO which is the same ?? The list price is £1050 but the same system is on summit racing for £726 ! Just need to be 100% sure the Pontiac GTO 2004 is the same ? Thanks shaun

Well they have gone up in price!
My exhaust was listed for a 6 ltr GTO, but with a bit of adjustment on the chassis exhaust hangers it fitted just fine. I suspect the 04 5.7 GTO will fit OK.
Stuart at AAS has regular shipments from summit racing so might be able to get it cheaper for you. However I suspect he will want to make an exhaust for you, they just love it!
Mind you they are very busy so you may have a wait.

I have to reply stating I am totally satisfied with Powerflow at Doncaster they have done four systems for my cars and top knotch welding and fit. Also when the rubber hangers perish they change them for new no probs.

So it looks like it depends on the individual outlet that does the job.

Mine sounds great and I am sure that those who have heard mine will agree.

Thanks for that ade. It would be nice to see some exhaust the branch in leicester has made as they have some bad reviews online. I think it sounds like I’d be best buying a factory made system even tho they cost a bit extra as reading some of the reviews for some of these places is scary !

Another option is to source the mufflers/silencers yourself and ask them to use those and just bend/weld the rest of the system.

Chambered silencers will give a completely different tone to fibre packed silencers and bullet silencers. Best bet is to hit YouTube and search for LS V8’s to hear the different types of sounds.

H and X and Y pipes can all make them sound different too.

97+ Corvette, 2004+ Pontiac GTO, 98+ Trans Am and Camaro all run the same engine. Should be plenty of vids.

Sorry prob should have said, it’s been on the car since 2005, before I owned it. It was supplied and fitted along with some other mods by a company that no longer exists. My service history starts with these guys then moves to Monkfish
I guess if nothing else it proves they last well. If you can find one

Nice work! I’ve just come back from an hour long aimless burble about in mine. Exhaust was popping and crackling quite a bit more than usual tonight! Maybe as it’s cold out. Sounded great in the narrow old streets of Norwich.....happy days!
